12 Life Hacks Using Floss that Don’t Involve Teeth
Cutting Cheese: Floss can be really handy to cut things. All you have to do is wrap the floss around your fingers like you would to floss your teeth. Then while holding the floss taut, gently press it down on the block of cheese until it’s all the way through. Next time you forget to pack cutting utensils for your picnic, check and see if you this life hack using floss can save your day.
Cutting Cake: When I was little, my mom used to make the most gorgeous cakes. A little trick I learned from her was that cakes don’t come out flat on top when you bake them. In order to stack the cakes, and not have them topple over or be lopsided, you can use floss on the cake to level them out. You grab the floss around your fingers and keep it taut then slide it across the top of the cake cutting the top level off. It’s important to keep the floss taut and move across smoothly, but it’s a super simple way to make sure your cakes are flat and ready to stack.
Sandwich Bag Tie: We are always forgetting to tie off sandwich bags or bags of snacks after they have been opened. Just nip off a little bit of floss, and you can tie up any snack bag without worrying about spills.
Clothes Line: One time we went camping and forgot our rope to dry our clothes up on. My sister happened to have some dental floss, and this life hack using dental floss was born. You don’t want to weight it down too much, but for a few items that need to hang dry, dental floss definitely does the trick.
Belt: Forgot your belt? Can’t keep your pants up? Yep, dental floss is even good for a short term belt.
Sewing: That’s the cool thing about sewing, If you have a needle, you can sew with just about anything. Yup, even dental floss.
Hair Tie: How many times have you left the house and not had a hair tie with you? I know I’ve done it about a bajilion times. In a real pinch, take a piece of dental floss and tie your hair back. Just make a bow at the back to make it easy to pull out without tangling your hair.
Hang Pictures: Did your picture come without something to hang it with? You can use dental floss and two flat thumb tacks on the back to make your own way to hang your favorite pictures and photos.
Hang Ornaments: It seems like every year when we pull out our Christmas decorations we don’t have as many hooks as we need. Or there are ornaments that need something to hang them down a little bit further. Using a little bit of dental floss, pulled through the ornament and tied makes a great impromptu ornament hanger.
Plant Ties: Have plants that need to be trellised or tomatoes you need to attach to a cage? Yup, you can use dental floss for that too!
Shoelaces: You always seem to bust a shoelace when you aren’t somewhere you can run and get a new shoelace. Dental floss is a great way to keep your shoes tied until you get to the store and get new shoelaces!
