We did receive some free Purina One Dog food to do the challenge, but all adorable fur babies and opinions are my own!
Over the last month, we had the honor of accepting the 28 Day Purina One Challenge. What’s the challenge about? Trying Purina One food with my fur babies, and see what differences it made in their health and coats.
We have three dogs, Happy, a 2 year old Dachsund that is Bayla’s baby, Bilty, the English Bulldog, and Karma, a Sheltie/Husky mix. The hubby and I always joke that these are our children because we don’t have biological children together. Regardless, the dogs are definitely family members in this household.
Karma aka crazy eye Bilty saying it’s time to get off the computer Happy aka His Royal HighnessSadly, Bilty has food allergies so we weren’t able to try him on the challenge, but the other two were eager to pick up the slack. (They’ve never met a bowl of dog food they couldn’t conquer)
We gradually switched over their food to Purina One, and took some notes to see if we liked this dog food better than the previous brand we had been using. A few things they told me to look for was the dogs’ coats and general health changes.
Karma absolutely loved the food right off the bat, but she’s not really hard to please. Normally she is such a pig that she eats Happy’s bowl too because he’s a picky eater and so slow to finish is meal.
Karma has a HUGE coat that she loves to leave fur balls all over the house. We have to brush her constantly to try and keep the hair balls down. We really didn’t notice too much of a difference in her coat. It was a little less greasy than it normally is, but nothing over the top amazing. We were just happy that she loved the food. Purina One is a higher line of dog food, but was still within our price point.

We did notice that Karma had a TON more energy. She’s still a puppy (well, almost 2 years old), and is constantly running circuits in our house. Want an idea what it’s like? Take the dog in this video make it look like a Sheltie and put it in a 2500 sq foot house. That’s our Karma. Reason number 4,054 we need to fence the backyard.
Happy, on the other hand, wasn’t quite sure what to think of the food at first. In all fairness, his royal highness seems to think filet mignon belongs in his bowl. The first few meals he wasn’t really excited about it, but on day three that all changed.
The third morning, we put the food in front of Happy, and he devoured it! To put this in perspective, this is the dog that normally takes an hour to eat breakfast. He’ll take a nibble, walk away, come back 10 minutes later, and so on. That’s why Karma normally pigs out on his breakfast first. Every meal after that third day, his meals were scarfed down in seconds. After having him be such a pain in the butt to eat, it was nice to see him love a food. He’s a mouthy little cuss when he’s not happy about his food, and the utter silence coming from him was amazing!
We’ve used other Purina food before, but honestly had moved onto different brands of dog food. After taking the Purina One Challenge, Purina One is definitely a food we are happy to let our fur babies enjoy!
