2012 was an interesting year for the Crunchy family. It was filled with lots of surgeries, moving boxes, friends and family. Looks like 2013 is already off to an interesting start as the Crunchy family is packing it up and moving to the land of 10,000 lakes! (For those of you that don’t know that’s the state of Minnesota)
When we moved from Florida to Indiana in 2008, people thought we were certifiable. (Well, we may be but not for that reason) Moving then was about moving to a place with FOUR seasons, not just hot, hot, and holy heck it’s hot. Indiana has been a good adventure for us, and we have made some really great friends in the Hoosier state, but something has always been missing.
Crunchy Kids having fun with the heat lamps at the Light Rail stopOur desire to move to Minnesota started last year when we visited during a conference. We absolutely loved it. Mr. Crunchy and I spent almost a week up there. The people were so nice, the area was great, and there was tons of things to do outdoors! Ever since then Mr. Crunchy has secretly been eyeing for ways to move us up there.
The thing that really prompted us to move was our youngest daughter. She has been sick for over a year with really severe psoriasis. Her allergies are getting to be unbearable, and now we have found out that the medication she is on to help control her psoriasis might be heading her towards kidney failure at 10 years old.
Minnesota is home to the Mayo clinic, one of the top hospitals in the country, and we are hoping that they will be able to help us manage our daughter’s illnesses and figure out exactly what is going on.
Leaving My Best Friend Sucks
The heartbreaking part is that my best friend is getting married in October, and I am her matron of honor. She was supposed to be getting married in our back yard. We’ve only known each other for about a year, but she’s truly one of the best people I have ever known.
She’s been feeling ill this week, and I couldn’t find a time to tell her in person because of the flu. I feel absolutely awful, but we have to take care of our daughter. It’s one of those times that being an adult absolutely stinks. I am going to miss her like crazy, and hope that I can still be there for her when it comes to the wedding. I will just have to do it from afar. (Love ya girl!) Telling her was one of the hardest things I have had to do because good friends are so hard to find! Being the awesome person that she is, she completely understood, and still loves me anyway even though we are moving 10 hours away.
On the Road Again
Now the next week is just about packing, finding a place to live, and getting everyone geared up to move to a great new home. There is so much to do and so little time, it’s like a giant whirlwind is happening all at once. I am surprised that I am keeping my head on straight.
So here’s to new adventure, and hopefully our last home for a VERY long time. (We keep seeming to say that, but I think we are just nomadic by nature) Here’s to hope, new friends, and new opportunity!
You guys have any moving or sanity tips to share with me? Because goodness knows I could use some extra sanity right now!

Aww, moving is always tough. I may be moving soon too and I am also hoping it’ll be the land of 10K lakes!

Cinny, You are moving to Minnesota too? Where at? We will be in the Minneapolis area. Seems a lot of people are moving lately.

Thanks girl! We are excited to move and get up there. My friend is also my daughter’s godmother so she completely understood! It’s just sad to move away from a good friend.

I’ve never moved, so I have no advice. But I wish you the best of luck with your new home, and your daughter’s illness

Krystle, I have moved so many times the idea of never moving is foreign to me lol. Thanks for the well wishes.
Dawn says
Kudos to you for being such great parents that you put your kid’s health above friends {though I know you will miss your friend, dearly}. I have a lot of respect for you for that. I hope that the Mayo Clinic can give your little one the care that she deserves.
Good luck in your new adventure!
Dawn
Crunchy Frugalista says
Dawn, Thanks. Kids are numero uno. Having dealt with her health problems all of her life, you just don’t even think about the rest. It stinks watching your kid hurt all the time so you do what you can. Luckily we are moving to a place we know we are going to love too.
