It was Mother/Daughter date night last night when we headed out to the Planes: Fire and Rescue screening. Bayla loved the first Planes movie, and was super excited to see the second one. As for me, taking the kids to kid movies in the theater is not exactly something this mama looks forward to. Though I have to say that after seeing the film I was pleasantly surprised.
Planes: Fire and Rescue finds Dusty the hero from the first planes movie at it again. He’s taken the world by storm with his fast racing ways, but life throws a curve ball at him. During one of his training runs Dusty finds his motor in rough shape. He’s really bummed that he has to choose between racing and possibly crashing or accepting his fate that he can’t race anymore.
This mama loved the lesson that Planes: Fire and Rescue teaches kids. Life is always going to throw curve balls. It’s how you react to those curve balls and rise above them that counts. Disney plays this in a fun exciting and playful way that kids enjoy. Heck, once Dusty becomes a fire fighting plane and AC/DC’s Thunder started jamming the screen even this mama was on board.
Disney does a great job showing what it’s like fighting wildfires without being scary and without glamorizing it either. There were tales of sacrifice, loss, bravery, and perseverance that are really great for any kid to learn. Plus, there was just enough kick butt music (cue AC/DC) and adult humor going above the little kids’ heads to make it survivable for all the parents in the audience too.
Before we had even left the movie theater Bayla, who’s 11, turned to me and said “Mom, we HAVE to buy this movie.” Guess it’s a good thing that I enjoyed the movie too. Looks like it’s going to be playing on loop in my house soon.
Planes: Fire and Rescue hits movie theaters on 7/17/2014!
