There comes moments in life when you have those “aha” moments. Those little moments of clarity that make you realize despite the fear, the self doubt, and the indecision that you are exactly where you’re supposed to be. You are who exactly who you are supposed to be; that everything happens for a reason. It’s these moments that give you the power and bravery needed when finding yourself.
Not any of that clandestine stars and butterflies kind of stuff, but that moment when you realize that if you throw fear to the wind and follow your intuition that you didn’t end up in your story line by happenstance. Choices you’ve made in life have come to fruition in the very moment you are in right now. Just think about that for a second. Don’t clutter that moment up with the heaviness of regrets and fear, but learn to start accepting yourself and accepting your journey. It’s what makes you unique in the world, it’s what makes you, you. That is something to be celebrated.
So much of life is blurred through because of assumed expectations and obligations; what kind of women we should be, what kind of mom we should be, what kind of significant other we should be. Before we realize it, half of our lives are gone to the wind and we aren’t quite sure where we lost ourselves along the way. It was slow and subtle at first, but here you sit in your mid thirties realizing that you’ve been fighting to fit a square peg in a round whole for the last half of your life.
Little by little, along the way, you gain a little bit more wisdom, as your mom said you would, and you begin to realize that all the things you have been fighting against are the exact things you should’ve been embracing and celebrating your whole life; your body that has carried you through your life, and that carried your children for nine months. Your heart that makes you vulnerable, and yet makes you the caring wonderful person that you are. Your mind that makes you think just slightly differently from everyone else, and that helps see the world through your creative lenses.
Life is beautiful, messy, and highly unpredictable. I’ll save you any clichés about seizing the moment and living it to the fullest or telling you that life is too short, but I will tell you what’ve I’ve learned. That sometimes our imperfections we see within ourselves are exactly the things that people admire in us. The little quirks that you’ve spent so many years trying to correct are the exact things that make people want to be around you. It’s what makes you interesting, it’s what makes you, YOU!
Just imagine for a second, if we spent half the time accepting ourselves rather than always trying to change ourselves. Imagine where you would be in your life. Rather than living gripped in fear or trying to control things, be brave. Show yourself the kindness that you so easily show others. Get outside of your comfort zone. Try new things. Ignore the decades of self hate messages you’ve been playing on auto repeat for most of your life.
Whenever you have one of these moments, just remember, you aren’t alone on your journey. The powers that be have put people in your path to enjoy this circus we call life with you. Embrace it, laugh, slow down, and most of all look forward to it. Don’t rush looking forward to the next thing, love yourself and realize you are exactly where, and who, you should supposed to be. That’s the beauty of finding yourself.
