On Christmas Day, the kids and I decided to head to our favorite comfy theater with reclining seats to check out Into the Woods. Into the Woods is the final film of 2014 from Walt Disney Pictures, and like most Disney films it didn’t disappoint.
I will fess up now that I am a big fan of musicals. Such a musical dork am I that I can still recite all the words to Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, and Aladdin. Into the Woods is a live action musical with a more than stellar cast. Though, I wasn’t sure what to expect since it was kind of like a mashup of all your favorite fairy tales into one musical two hour experience.
Walt Disney Pictures has been doing an amazing job getting away from the same ole same ole fairy tale story. They did a kick ass job with that in Maleficent, and of course in their smash hit Frozen. Disney doesn’t disappoint with Into the Woods. Into the Woods is a great adaptation of a well received stage musical.
The music was something that I’ve already had stuck in my head since Christmas day, and the costumes and cinematography were amazing. The beginning of the film, I wasn’t quite sure where I stood as far as like or love it, but when the two dashing princes hit the screen and belted out the song “Agony” it was definitely leaning much more towards the love category.
All three of my kids really enjoyed the film, which was pretty easy to tell from all the laughter that was coming from a few seats over. If you are a Disney fan, or a musical an, you are sure to like Into the Woods. It’s a fresh new take on many classic fairy tales, and how these fairy tale characters’ lives intertwine. We definitely enjoyed it, and really look forward to buying the Into the Woods soundtrack. (grab it on Amazon here)
If you are looking for a family friendly movie to take the kids to or even a date night movie for musical lovers, I really recommend Into the Woods. Our family really enjoyed it.
