Kids love crafting. There is something special about taking supplies and turning them into something. Valentine’s day is a great time to get crafting with kids. There are many Valentine’s Day crafts for preschoolers that are both simple and cute enough to use for decorations after the kids have had their fun making them. I know from my experience that when looking for a craft for preschoolers that it is important to look for something that is easy for them to do and that shows fast results. Attention spans tend to dwindle out if the kids have to wait to see results.
The hearts in this Valentine’s Day craft are easy for kids to make and because it does not take very long to make each one, kids can finish the 3 hearts before they get bored.
Supplies:
- Red and white pipe cleaners– You can use any color but the pipe cleaners do show between the beads. If you don’t want them to stand out, use the same color as the beads.
- Red Pony beads
- White Pony Beads– Any beads will do if they fit over the pipe cleaners, but pony beads fit well, are inexpensive, and are easy for little fingers to manipulate.
Carefully have your preschooler thread the beads on the pipe cleaners. You can make plain red, plain white or work on a pattern of red and white. It can be a great way to teach patterns.
Tip to keep the beads on: Bend the end slightly. It makes it a little harder to push the beads off the end. It will save your kids some frustration.
Once the beads are on the pipe cleaners, twist the ends together forming a circle.
Turn the twisted parts down and form the circle into a heart. Add a few more beads to the twisted cleaners. Then bend the ends just slightly to hold the beads in place.
After making a few beaded hearts, use red thread or yarn, to tie the hearts together.
Tie another piece to the top heart to use as a hanger.
These beaded heart preschool Valentine’s Day craft is adorable and will look perfect hanging anywhere.
