One of the things that happens in life is feeling tired all the time. Whether its from staying awake with your new baby or working until the wee hours of the morning there are a lot of things that can drain the energy out of you. Trust me, I can relate to this one. It’s like being a member of the walking dead. When my energy is needing a boost, there are a few tricks up my sleeve that I pull out of my handy dandy life toolbox to boost my energy naturally. I’m not one to rely on crazy stuff to make sure you don’t nod off, but these 5 ways to boost your energy naturally work every time to get me through the day.
My whole life I’ve struggled with fatigue and needing a lot of sleep. Even when I was a teenager I would voluntarily go to bed at 8pm at night because by the end of the day I was just zonked. It would be nice to tell you that my need for sleep has changed, in case you are wondering it hasn’t, so rather than fight my body’s need for all those lovely zzzs I learned to embrace it.
One of the ways I’ve learned to embrace it is to fall in love with my vitamins and macronutrients. I am not a health guru by any stretch of the imagination, still can’t give up those
Cool Ranch Doritos, but as I’ve gotten older I have tried to find more natural and healthier ways to take care of myself. I’ve even tried to give up caffeine from time to time (GASP). Though I don’t think I will try that sacreligious practice again, it’s safer for those around me that I don’t
When I was going through my divorce about 10 years ago, I had a counselor that saw I was struggling with handling life/stress. You know, the whole adult thing, and I was constantly complaining of being out of energy the whole time. One of the pieces of wisdom that she gave me was to try taking a B vitamin complex. It was the first time I had heard of doing this, and desperate I was willing to try anything at this point. It was that or take something like No Doze, and goodness knows that’s probably not good for your body.
You know me, the perpetual skeptic, I didn’t expect to notice any difference, but you know what after taking a few rounds of Vitamin B I did notice a huge difference. Not only in my energy levels, but in my mood, too. Hallelujah. It was just enough of an energy boost that I didn’t feel the need to prop my eyelids up with toothpicks all day, which considering what I did for a living at the time, was a huge relief.
Fast forward 10 years later, and while parusing my favorite aisle of Target I came across a magical box. It was an herbal supplement drink from Zarbee’s. First off, I have to say I am in love with all the natural, organic, gluten free goodies that Target is stocking their aisles with. Our family is working really hard to live better, and having natural items in the store really helps. (Ok, except for the random bag of Cool Ranch Doritos that accidentally jumps in my cart) Zarbee’s is this great natural brand founded by Dr. Zak Zarbock, that you can find in the pharmacy section. They offer lots of great natural remedies, and my favorite is their invigorating drink blend. It’s chock full of vitamins, and instead of taking yet another pill in the morning, I can mix it into my water bottle and sip on it all day to get the B Vitamins I need to boost my energy.
They come in these cute individual packets, so it makes it easy to take them with me. For my trip to Vancouver this week, I made sure to pack one for each day while I am gone because travel really takes the energy out of me. If you struggle with low energy, I really suggest you give Zarbee’s drink mixes a whirl plus check out these five tips to boost your energy naturally. They’ve worked really well for me over the years, and something that I try to do every day to keep me at premium performance
5 Tips to Boost Your Energy Natural
B Vitamins: Like I said, B Vitamins rock my world. Not sure what it is about these beauties but they are the best to keep me powered up. The Zarbee’s Invigorating blend is a great lemon lime flavor packed with B!
Meditation: Stress can really zap your energy stores. Taking 5-10 minutes out of your day to meditate or just quiet the stress noise in your head can really relax your body and save
up your energy for more important things. Don’t think meditation has to be chanting “om” in a corner somewhere. Listen to some music, dance around the room, read a great book. It’s just important to stay in the moment
Exercise: This may seem like an oxymoron, but if you are zonked try getting up and going for a walk. Getting the blood flowing gets the heart pumping just enough to give you the energy boost you need during the day.
Reduce Your Sugar: This tip was HARD for me, but it works so well. If you are addicted to sugar like I am, that afternoon crash is HARD on you. Gradually reducing the amount of sugar that you eat each day will help reduce those late afternoon sugar crashes and the lack of energy that comes with them.
Power Nap: If you absolutely feel like you can move you are so tired, it’s time for a good power nap. I won’t lie, at first when you wake up you will feel like total crap, BUT once that passes it gives you a good boost of energy that will get you through the rest of the day. Naps shouldn’t be any longer than 20-30 minutes and you really should aim to have them earlier in the day. Trying to nap after 4pm will just set you up for failure when you try to go to sleep for the night.
Now that’s it! You are ready to conquer the world and kick that low energy in the butt! Make sure to check out Zarbee’s, and head to your local Target of course, to stock up. You can thank me later!
