This Alice Through the Looking glass Premiere trip was an all expenses paid trip, but all fan girling and Alice merriment are my own
Walking the red carpet at an LA premiere is a once in a lifetime event. Luckily for me, it’s something that has happened three times in my life and each and every single time it’s an amazing experience. Last week, I was invited to attend the Alice Through the Looking Glass red carpet premiere with Disney, which opens in theaters May 27th, and it’s always so much fun to head out to sunny California and embrace the fact that little ole me is going to be in the same vicinity of some megastars!
Before we get to the red carpet part, I have to share with you that there was a live event with P!nk as part of Jimmy Kimmel Live. P!nk is one of the few celebrities that I was literally flushed with excitement to see. She was taping two songs: Like Fire (the theme song to Alice Through the Looking Glass) and White Rabbit to air on Jimmy Kimmel Live that night. We were literally right at the very front of the stage.
What’s P!nk like you might ask? Pretty much as awesome as you could expect. She cracked jokes and performed her butt off. Plus, that girl has an amazing set of pipes. It’s no wonder that she has had so much success over the years. She’s one of my favorite artists because she’s never been afraid to be different. (Me like to be different??Noo…. you don’t say) Even before I decided to embrace my quirky side, P!nk has always been one of my role models about owning your funk.
It was a surprise to me that I wasn’t hoarse the next day, because I was screaming my head off and singing along as she rocked out. You can check out the live performances of P!nk singing White Rabbit and Pink singing Like Fire! . (the audio is not the greatest because we were so close to the speakers, but it was the closest thing I could get to taking each and every one of you to Hollywood Boulevard with me) Her performance was definitely one of the most memorable moments that I have had in all of my Disney adventures.
After we heard P!nk sing, we headed over to Hot Topic to check out the new line of goodies for Alice Through the Looking Glass. (Or as my daughter calls it “merch”) They had some really cool t-shirts, pins, shoes, and other accessories. My favorite was a Cheshire Cat shirt that said “I’m not crazy, my reality is just different than yours!” (It’s like they read my mind or something)
We’re Off to the Alice Through The Looking Glass Premiere
Before heading down to the red carpet we took eour picture with the whole group of bloggers on the “Oscar stairs” that are just across the street from El Capitan theater. It’s somewhat of a tradition to take the bloggers’ group picture on these stairs on each trip to Los Angeles. These are some of my favorite photos to hang up in my office to remember what a fun time I’ve had.
After all that, it was time to head down to the red carpet! What is it like walking a red carpet? First and foremost it’s exciting. There is a buzz that is all around. When you watch premieres on television you don’t see the chaos behind the camera. When you are on the red carpet looking out, there is a sea of paparazzi; television camera crews doing live interviews, photographers yelling at the talent to look this way and that way. And even more behind them, there are lines and lines of fans lining the whole length of Hollywood Boulevard in front of El Capitan theater, just hoping to get a glimpse of one of their favorite actors.
Being my third red carpet event, this was probably my favorite. When I went to my first red carpet for Iron Man 3 premiere, it was really overwhelming. Granted Marvel red carpets are always more intense, but there were fans screaming everywhere, people telling you to move down the carpet, and you were trying to take the photos you needed for your post. It wasn’t until I got home that I realized my photos had captured quite a few celebrities.
This red carpet I really wanted to take it all in. Granted, security was still trying to tell us to move it on down the carpet, but there was a lot more time to just take it all in. Between the sea of flashing bulbs, I was able to see Sacha Baron Cohen and even Johnny Depp. Yes, you are all now 1 degree separated from Johnny Depp. We were less than 30 feet away from him while he was doing interviews with ET live from the carpet.
Once we made our way down to the end of the carpet, I may or may not have had a fan girl moment when I saw Twitch and his wife being interviewed. You guys know me, I’m not a huge celebrity person, but before I realized the words had left my mouth (rather loudly) I had said “OMG, It’s Twitch!” The best part is that my friend next to me was doing her Facebook Live video so of course it’s all caught on tape. I’ve always been proud of being the consumate professional on these trips, and still am, but that was a moment that excitement just got the best of me. He was so gracious, turned and smiled and waved and turned back to his interview. (My lucky duck friend later got a selfie with him)
At the end of the carpet, they had fun photo opportunities, and a place you could check out some of the Alice Through the Looking Glass goodies that will be available on HSN. There were so many cute items. Once I was done looking at that, I just hung out for a little bit to see if anyone interesting would stop by. That’s how I snapped a picture of Twitch and Ian Zeiring as they were headed into El Capitan theater.
For me, it’s neat to see the celebrities, but I try to remember that this is their job and to be respectful of them, so some of these pictures were just a quick casual snap as they walked by. It’s a fun way to share with you who was all there without being all celebrity stalker like. To keep going on these trips, I have to promise Marshall (one of my favorite Disney PR reps) that I won’t end up on an episode of TMZ. This is my sixth trip with Disney, and so far so good on that promise!
If you want to see for yourself what it’s like to walk the red carpet, make sure to check out my Alice Through the Looking Glass red carpet video, and here’s another Alice Through the Looking glass premiere video with Sacha Baron Cohen. Don’t hate on the sound quality or the lack of awesome filming. It was a bit glitching due to cell phone signal, but hope you enjoy seeing what it’s like (it’s about as good as being there yourself!)
After all the fun on the red carpet, and watching the movie of course, we were lucky enough to head to the Alice Through the Looking Glass Premiere party! This was a first for me, I’ve never ever attended a Hollywood premiere party, so you can bet I was super excited.
To get to the party from the theater, we had to walk a few blocks to the iconic Roosevelt Hotel. It was really neat to walk that way because as we reached the front doors there were people with Alice posters trying to grab celebrity signatures as they walked by. I just happened to be walking behind the actor that played Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum. It didn’t dawn on me that it was him until people asked for autographs and I noticed the big security guards all around him.
The party was so much fun! We had a chance to take funny Alice pictures with my blogger buddies, get our makeup touched up by Urban Decay, and enjoy Alice themed eats and drinks. While at the party, I spotted actress Alicia Witt, Lars Ulrich from Metallica, and even Pete Wentz from Fall Out Boy. (My daughters were really jealous about that last one)
We hung out at the party for about an hour or so, and it was so much fun to take it all in. The entire room was decorated with Alice like decorations, tall mushrooms, florals, and big posters from the movie. After a long, but exciting day, it was the perfect ending to an amazing experience.
Think all the Alice fun is at an end? Nope. You know better than that! So make sure to tune in to all my other Alice Through the Looking Glass event posts coming soon. We did some amazing interviews, plus reviewing the movie itself! You won’t want to miss out! Plus, make sure that you buy your Alice Through the Looking Glass tickets so you can see it in theaters May 27th!
