Create Your Own Reading Nook in Three Easy Steps

Bibliophiles REJOICE! You don’t have to tear down walls, and spend thousands of dollars to create your own reading nook. Nope, in just three easy steps you can create a little space for you to kick back and enjoy your favorite books. It’s as easy as 1, 2, 3.

I’ve been a book worm for as long as I can remember. Even now, I fly through books with such ferocity that I need a side job for my book habit. Even my husband pokes fun of the fact I flew through the Twilight series, yes the whole series, in five days flat. (There may have been some sun, food, and sleep deprivation during that period of time) It doesn’t matter if it’s a true crime novel, a young adult novel, or a fiction novel, I’ll read it all.

Since I’ve been trying to read more, and unplug from technology, I figured it was time to create my own reading nook. I’ve always drooled over the gorgeous reading nooks on Pinterest because I never had the place or money to build my own reading nook. Not one to let that stop me, I decided to create my own reading nook using some very simple steps that don’t involve tearing down dry wall or even a speck of paint! For less than $150, I was able to create a space that is already my favorite spot in the house. It puts a huge smile on my face, and warmth in my heart to know I have a cozy little corner to call my own where I can escape into my favorite book.

Now let’s get to the fun part; creating your own reading nook. It’s super simple, and you can even create your own reading nook even if you don’t own your own home. That’s the best part! Don’t let renting keep you down! Get creative, have fun, and that cozy little spot will be all yours.

The most important things about a reading nook is:

1. Have a cozy chair to sit in: No joke, the chair that I use for my reading nook I got from Goodwill for $5! I bought it originally to use in my YouTube videos I was going to do, but I fell in love with it and put it in my reading nook instead. You might already have a cozy chair, or you might need to find one, but look at places like LetGo, an app that has items for sale in your local area; Goodwill; or even yard sales!

2. Have good lighting and small table: It’s hard to read a book if you have bad lighting. A simple table lamp will do the trick! You can get an inexpensive table lamp or shop around online to see if you can find one on Craigslist or the other places I mentioned above. A table to put the lamp will also help! My little table was free. I grabbed it off the curb from my neighbor. (I have no shame) With a little cleaning up, it’s been such a great little table!

 

3.Have some fun: This is the most important step! Put a little fun in your corner! I did this with my Enbrighten Seasons Color Changing Café Lights! With my first set of cafe lights, I built my own backyard retreat. With my second set of cafe lights,  I can brighten up my reading nook depending on my mood and the season because these lights change color! It makes it just a little bit more fun to put a smile on my face. Little quirky things like this are what makes life amazing. It may sound cheezy, but it’s what I do to make a little escape that I can easily go to every day. They even have an awesome little remote that lets you dim lights, strobe them, or change them to a rainbow of colors!
