I did receive an all expenses paid trip to Los Angeles for the #Tomorrowlandevent Press Junket, but all awesomeness is my own!
Who knew that I would meet Britt Robertson twice in a one month time span? I recently had a chance to interview her when she was in Minneapolis, and again had a chance to chat with her in Los Angeles during the Tomorrowland Press Junket. How would I describe Britt? She’s warm and friendly, and definitely an up and coming star! Every time she walks into a room, you are greeted by a warm smile and her girlish charm. She’s a fun and friendly personality in the room.
The 25 bloggers from the Tomorrowland press junket had a chance to ask her about her role as Casey in Tomorrowland. Since she is up and coming, we wanted to ask her about how she landed the role of Casey. She shared this about the audition process:
I started auditioning for the movie the November before we started shooting, so November of two thousand thirteen. Then I had multiple auditions from November to July. I first sent in a tape from New York in November, and then I went in for Brad Bird a few times and for the casting people. Then right around May they brought me in to do full read with Brad, and then at that point they flew me to Vancouver to actually do a screen test with Raffey Cassidy, who plays Athena. A week later the told me I got the part!
She was so excited that she got the part of Casey, she mentioned there might’ve been some fist pumping and jumping up and down on her, but when we asked her about how it felt to be the “hero” of the movie, Britt was surprisingly humble. She shared, ”
It’s a really great thing to be the hero of a movie like this. It’s a Disney film and to be a young woman and carry a movie like that I found it really intimidating, but luckily Brad Bird is such a wonderful human being. He understands people on a very real level, so I think he gave me the encouragement to be brave and take it one day, so that was I wasn’t too overwhelmed by being the hero.
Her take on be the heroine was really touching. Britt plays Casey in a way that people of all ages can relate to her. She makes her character very real. Casey has a big heart, but sometimes that big heart can get her into trouble. We asked Britt if she saw any similiarities between herself and Casey, and her answer actually surprised me. She explained,
I think her mindset is very different from mine. Not so much anymore, because I’ve adopted a lot of her traits and characteristics, because I like her and I think she’s a cool chick.
Sounds like a little bit of Casey’s optimism has rubbed off on Britt, and that could never be a bad thing.
Speaking with Britt was a lot of fun, and you know this interview wouldn’t be complete if we didn’t ask her what it was like to work with George Clooney. I know you guys are all dying to know the answer to this as well! Britt smiled like she knew this question was coming, but was really fun when she answered.
Working with George, going into it, you have all the expectations of a person like that. A movie star and what that means and for me if I was George Clooney, I don’t know that I would be able to handle it as well as he has and that was what was so surprising to me is being able to be around him and see how he’s just completely himself. He hasn’t been lost in the process of becoming George Clooney.
I have to agree with that statement from the 15 minutes I’ve spent with George Clooney (make sure to check out part one of the George Clooney interview here if you missed it) He seemed very real! Just like Britt! They were both such a joy to interview, and it’s amazing how much maturity she shows being relatively new to the limelight of the business.
These Tomorrowland interviews were such a blast to do, and every one was so amazing down to earth and friendly. Make sure to come back to check out the interview with Brad Bird and Damon Lindelof producers and writer of the film, as well interviews with Raffey Cassidy, and part 2 of the George Clooney interview! Until then, check out this fun featurette of Casey!
