Ant-Man is the Marvel movie of the summer. When I was in New York City for BlogHer I had a chance to check out this great Marvel film, and even have it introduced by Mr. Paul Rudd himself. (Hello, Paul)
Ant-Man is the best of both worlds in my opinion. It’s a great family movie and everything you expect from a good Marvel movie: action, humor, and more action. Ant-Man is the story of Scott Lang an ex-con with a good heart that keeps getting him in trouble. Just recently released from prison for stealing for his Robin Hood ways of stealing from the rich giving back to the poor, he’s now seen the error of his ways, he’s focused on getting back to the only thing that matters in his life, his young daughter.
The movie is great, and it’s the perfect family movie meets Marvel movie. Honestly, being a Marvel geek girl through the movie,s not the comics, I had not heard of Ant-Man before the promo for this movie was coming out. I wasn’t even sure that I would like it, but you know what I didn’t like it. I loved it. I left the theater with a big grin on my face because there was enough smart butt humor and Avengers tie ins to make you nostalgic, and in true Marvel fashion the film left you thinking where else you are going to see Ant-Man pop up because you know Marvel is OH so subtle about whether or not you will see them in another movie (Um, remember “Avengers will be back”)
I’m a Marvel fan because it’s geekery AND because there is also a lot of great humor in the films. When the movies get too action packed, and not enough plot/humor packed, frankly I get bored. Ant-Man is totally NOT one of these movies. It had the perfect balance of action, humor, and family filled moments that make you want to give your kids an awkward squishy hug in public. (Mine were lucky they weren’t in NYC with me)
Paul Rudd does a great job playing an seemingly socially awkward character that comes into his own when he takes on the evil forces as Ant-Man. I’ll admit he even won my heart when I saw he was kind enough to take pictures with my friend’s kids when they ran into him in the hallway. He’s just an all around awesome guy. I’ve loved him for years, not like need a restraining order loved him, but he’s a very versatile actor that knows how to deliver some laughs. Now through Ant-Man I know he also knows how to deliver some action too.
Bottom line, Ant-Man is a great family friendly movie (personally I would recommend it for ages 8+) and you are totally failing as a parent if you don’t take your kids to see this movie this weekend. If you’ve ever been hesitant to take your kids to a Marvel or Avengers movie, this is the one movie you SHOULD definitely take them to see. It’s family friendly, adult friendly (thanks for the jokes over kids’ heads Marvel), and just a good all around movie. I loved it so much I am taking my kids to see it this weekend, and I am voluntarily sitting through it again in the theater for the second time. I NEVER do that! So go, take the kids, have some laughs, and stop failing your kids!

I saw part of it in NYC but we were front and center and it was 3d, so it made for motion sickness. We plan on going back for sure- not sure how I feel about a Marvel film with such a story based plot, but we’ll see!

Marvel is really taking the time to make sure each movie they do both fits in with their themes and meets standards of quality. I’m surprised no one has tried that sooner!
