Pi Day, March 14th, is always a great excuse to indulge in a little sweetness. Fruit pies are one of my favorite ways to celebrate Pi Day. The sweet and tart flavors of fruits like cherries, lemon, and strawberries remind me that spring time is just around the corner.
Growing up, my favorite pie recipe of all time was Lemon Meringue Pie. It’s something that I insisted that my mom make at every major holiday. It’s sweet and creamy, with just a touch of tart. I’m a big apple pie fan too, but this lemon meringue pie has been a long time favorite of mine for as long as I can remember.
Being a homeschooling family, we are going to be making some of these 15 delish fruit pie recipes, plus talking about the mathematical number Pi. My kids are a bit older, so we might be able to dig just a little bit deeper into their math lessons this year talking about Pi and why it’s important. Plus, who doesn’t like being bribed with a little bit of fruit pie in order to learn math? Sounds like a win/win situation to me.
