How to Make Homemade Hot Cocoa: FAQs Tips and Tricks
Do I have to use Dutch Processed Baking Chocolate? Nope, but it does make for a smoother hot cocoa. Dutch-processed cocoa means that the cocoa beans have been soaked in a special solution that tends to make the cocoa beans darker, mellows out the sharp cocoa flavor, and makes them dissolve better in liquids. That’s why we suggest using it in this recipe.
Can you make dairy free hot chocolate? Yep, with a few alterations you can make dairy free hot cocoa and you can also make it vegan hot chocolate as well. Just use these products instead (all measurements stay the same)
What if I only want to make one cup of hot cocoa? In all honesty, I just wing recipes half the time. Use about 1 cup of milk to 1/4 cup of cream with a splash of sweetened condensed milk. Add chocolate to your level of chocolatelyness (Yep I just made that word up) and warm in a sauce pan! Or simpler yet, check out our homemade hot cocoa mix for one
How long is this slow cooker cocoa recipe good for? If you don’t finish the entire recipe, you can store this in the refrigerator for 2-4 days. The ingredients will separate, but if you slowly warm them back up and whisk together they should taste just as delicious. (Though there has NEVER been a time when I make this recipe that we have any left)
