I love snack mixes and this one does not disappoint. {Promise!} But making it in the slow cooker was a brilliant idea, if I do say so! Saying it’s HOT here in the summer is an understatement. I hate turning on my oven for any amount of time in the summer…seriously it heats up the whole house; however, sometimes I just need a good snack mix.
My slow cooker snack mix is made to be gluten free and vegan, but it can easily be adapted for anyone. Just use regular butter and substitute Cheerios for the Puffins. I think everyone likes rice cereal though…ya know, Rice Chex! Also, if you are vegan then please double check the Worcestershire sauce ingredients…mine is vegan, but I’ve heard some might not be.
I mentioned that I love a good snack mix. This one is perfect…just enough seasoning, the right amount of salt, and not too spicy. In fact, I had to hide the bag of snack mix because I kept nibbling on it and I think Hubbyman would divorce me if I don’t save him some
Ingredients:
5 cups rice cereal
1 cup Puffins cereal (or Cheerios if not needing gluten-free)
1 cup thin pretzels (gluten free, I prefer Glutino brand)
1 cup peanuts
1 stick (1/2 cup) Earth Balance “butter” (or butter)
4 TBSP Worcestershire sauce
Dash Tobasco
½ tsp seasoning salt
½ tsp garlic salt
½ tsp onion salt
Ingredients:
In a large slow cooker, combine first 4 ingredients.
In a microwave safe bowl, melt “butter” for about 30 seconds in a microwave or until completely melted. Add remaining ingredients and stir well combine. Pour over cereal mix and mix well.
Turn on slow cooker to high heat and cook uncovered for 1 hour then turn to low to cook for an additional 1 hour. Stir every 30 minutes.
Turn out onto paper towels and let cool. Store mix in a ziptop baggie for up to 1 week.

I never would have thought to make this in a crockpot. I love snack mixes like this and it is really a frugal way to feed the kids after school!
Wendy @ AMFT says
Me either Diane! It’s so easy in the slow cooker and my kids devoured it!
Danielle says
I’ve done breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert in the crock pot but have never thought to make snacks in it! Love this idea. I’ll definitely be trying it out at our next event. Mmmm.
Wendy @ AMFT says
I’d love to hear what you think Danielle! I love my slow cooker, so I’m not sure why it took me so long to think up this one. LOL!

What a great idea! I’d never think to make snack mix in the crock pot, but this is awesome. I pinned it so the next time I have people over, I can make it.

This looks great! We haven’t made it since we started needing GF/DF, so I am happy to have this recipe. Thanks.

So glad we could help Suzanne! It can be so hard to find food to eat when you have to adjust your diet to avoid certain things. Make sure to check back, we will be adding even more great allergy friendly recipes!

I am so sorry to have to tell you this, but this would not last 2 hours in my house. We love chex mix and you can’t find the one with the peanuts. (peanut allergy) I will try this next time I go to the store. Thanks for the great recipe.
MicheleL says
Thanks so much! Since my son has had to change to a gluten free /dairy free diet, one of the snacks he misses is the chex mix! I just bought some dairy free chocolate chips so that would be a great addition! We love using Ghee instead of butter, as it is casein free! This is perfect timing since my son’s birthday party is this weekend! Thanks for dong all of the thinking for me, haha, so I can concentrate on other things I need to get done! All the best to you!

Michele, So glad it helped. I have several allergy friendly recipes on the blog as my daughter has severe food allergies as well. If you haven’t tried Enjoy Life foods chocolate chips yet, I HIGHLY suggest them. We use them in all of our baking for my daughter that also has a severe milk allergy. Hope your son has a VERY happy birthday!
Michele says
Thanks, Ashley! I am so excited , because those are the ones I bought! I can’t wait to try them! I haven’t opened them yet or I may eat them all! Haha! But I will definitely try some in the mix! I will check out your other allergy friendly recipes! Thanks!

We love all of the Enjoy Life products we have had. Her favorite are the chocolate chunk. You can also try the Rice Dream chocolate bars if you can find them. That is what we give her as a candy bar when she wants a treat like that 🙂

I’ve made this before in the oven but not the crock pot. Any time I get to use it, it’s a plus for me!
Thanks for linking up to the Merry Monday link party!
We hope to see you again next week!

Ale says
How’s this recipe Vegan when it has Worcestershire sauce? Do you have a substitute for it?
Ash Sears says
(This comment contains affiliate links)Ale, Thanks so much for bringing this to our attention. This was a guest post, and we will correct that. As for a substitute I find that coconut aminos work really well as well!
