Every day we are bombarded by images of perfection. Airbrushed models, and body standards that are impossible in real life. The objectification of women is so rampant that we have almost become blind to it. Our television screens are graced with hoohas and tatas to sell everything from sandwiches to post it notes. Usually with the idea that it’s “all in good fun.”

Well this chick is tired of seeing all this craziness. That’s why I was honored to be a part of the #womennotobjects campaign. They have a POWERFUL video that really opens your eyes to just how much of today’s media looks as women as a piece of meat to entice and persuade people. I thought I had a good idea just how much we are objectified as women, but watching this video has brought my eyes wide open. Check it out.
Wow, just wow is what I thought after seeing that video. I mean my boobs have super powers but I don’t think those super powers include being able to sell someone a product that doesn’t get used by said boobs.
Sure you can say that men are objectified as well, but here’s a question for you. Why has it taken so long to have this conversation? Why did it take men being objectified for us to start talking about the awful stereotypes we are putting out there for our daughters, mothers, and sisters to see? You can’t pick up a magazine, drive by a billboard, watch television without constantly being bombarded by the same messages over and over. Women are supposed to be thin, big busted, and beautiful. If you aren’t one of those things then you are a failure.
Well, here’s a challenge for you guys! Help get the conversation started. Tweeted, share on Facebook using the hashtag #womennotobjects to get this video out and get people talking about how we can change this. Let’s empower women. Let’s empower our daughters, mothers and sisters.

I said something to my husband about looking sexy recently and he replied with “don’t objectify me”. He was joking, of course, but at least he got a little taste of that it’s like to be a female.

I love this. Even today, there’s still so much of this in our society. =/

We have brought up our kids to be respectful to women and that includes not to objectify them. I think you are absolutely correct. This needs to get put out there so people will start talking about it. Great post Ashley!

I’m all about feeling pretty when it comes to my significant other but when random people make me feel like I’m only there for their viewing pleasure that’s not right.

I was looking with my bestie thru a Victoria’s Secret catalog (I know, lol) but my point is the page where they where selling pajamas, like long sleeve pajamas, that are supposed to cover you, and the girls where laying on a floor, using their hands to bare their torso, looking playfully at each other, they where trying to imitate a sleepover, me and my friend where cracking up, because this is definitely NOT how girls do or dress during sleep overs, so wrong to use sexiness to sell everything, even for Victoria’s Secret.

This is a great campaign! I think it’s bad enough that they fix up women to make them “look better”. I think we should all be photographed the way we already are. I hate the way society thinks everyone should look. I will definitely share this!

YES! What a powerful video. I hope I raise my kids to empower women – my son, too!

I know I don’t like feeling like an object. It’s hard to feel like you don’t need to use your body to get attention.

I could not agree with you more! I love the quote picture at the beginning.

I agree with this! We should build eash other up and not just let society refer to us as objects that are not equal.
