It’s not very often that you get the awesome chance to interview celebrity animated characters AND the voice actor behind them!. While I was in Los Angeles, we had the chance to interview Flash the Sloth from Zootopia and his voice actor Raymond Persi. This was my first ever on camera celebrity interview, and I have to say it was quite exciting. It’s was a big surprise that we were going to be able to interview Flash the Sloth live and in person. He works at the DMV, so it must’ve been really hard to get a day off to meet with all of us for the interviews.
We also had a chance to interview the voice behind Flash, Raymond Persi. It’s always so much fun talking to the voice actors because you never quite know what they look like because up until this point, you’ve only heard their voice. Raymond shared with us, that he is an animator at Disney and was also used as a scratch voice for Flash. For those that haven’t checked out my previous Disney Animation posts, a scratch voice is just anyone’s voice they use to record the first round. It’s usually not the voice that goes in the movie.
Lucky enough for Raymond, they loved they way he sounded when he did his scratch recording so they went ahead and used him as the voice of Flash. This is the second actor that I’ve met that started out as a scratch voice and ended up being the final voice in the film. We learned that about Kaitlyn Dias who voices Riley in Inside Out. It’s always fun to find out that sometimes scratch voices have the magic to make it to the final film!
After we chatted with Raymond, we got to interview the main man himself; Flash. We didn’t have a whole lot of time to chat with Flash, but he gave us the ultimate insight into the story behind his name. So many curious minds want to know, is Flash a nickname or is it a family name. Check out our interview to see what he shares!
The modern mammal metropolis of Zootopia is a city like no other. Comprised of habitat neighborhoods like ritzy Sahara Square and frigid Tundratown, it’s a melting pot where animals from every environment live together—a place where no matter what you are, from the biggest elephant to the smallest shrew, you can be anything. But when optimistic Officer Judy Hopps (voice of Ginnifer Goodwin) arrives, she discovers that being the first bunny on a police force of big, tough animals isn’t so easy. Determined to prove herself, she jumps at the opportunity to crack a case, even if it means partnering with a fast-talking, scam-artist fox, Nick Wilde (voice of Jason Bateman), to solve the mystery. Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Zootopia,” a comedy-adventure directed by Byron Howard (“Tangled,” “Bolt”) and Rich Moore (“Wreck-It Ralph,” “The Simpsons”) and co-directed by Jared Bush (“Penn Zero: Part-Time Hero”),
