One thing that you guys may not know about me is that I love cars. I love all of the gadgets in them and all the vroom in the engine. That’s why when I was invited to check out the Ford Ecoboost Challenge I was really excited to jump at the chance.
The Ford Ecoboost Challenge is heading across America so people can come a to a free event to check out what Ford has to offer! The event consists of three great events to give you the full Ecoboost challenge including:
- High Performance Experience: Featuring the Fiesta ST and Focust ST
- Hypermile Instruction: Get the most out of your gas mileage
- Ford EcoBoost Challenges
Does Your Car Get 999.99 Miles Per Gallon?
The Hypermile instruction was a fun exercise to see if the Ecoboost team can teach you how to maximize your gas mileage by coaching your driving techniques. This was my first time driving a hybrid and I have to say it was TOTALLY awesome. I had a chance to drive the Ford C-Max. It had all the gadgets a girl could want including in dash navigation and push start ignition. The interior was surprisingly roomy for such a small car, and the engine was noiseless. Literally! You couldn’t hear the engine when it was on in electric mode. It took a bit to get used to.
Do you think your driving makes a difference? I didn’t either, but the first time around the track my gas mileage was an average of 24 miles per gallon. After some quick coaching tips on how to driving a hybrid I was able to get my gas mileage up to 999.99 MPG! That basically means I was able to stay in battery mode all the way around the track! Now that could add up to some gas savings! (The mileage will vary based on terrain, but that is still a huge difference)
The Ford EcoBoost Challenges put Ford vehicles head to head with various competitors as well. I was able to drive the Ford Escape against the Honda CRV. All I can tell you is there was a night and day difference! The Ford was smooth and reacted well in steering, accelerating and braking.
This was my first time ever doing an driving course with a vehicle, and I have to say that it was a LOT of fun. It also made me wonder why more car dealerships didn’t do this. In the span of less than half a mile I was able to get a great feeling for how the car handles turns, accelerates, and brakes. All really important things when purchasing a vehicle.
High Performance Experience: Put the Pedal to the Metal
Last, but certainly not least was the High Performance Experience. This was the speed event! Sadly, I wasn’t able to drive because all of the Ford Fiesta ST and Ford Focus ST cars were stick shifts. I can drive stick shifts, but I figured since Mr. Crunchy was with me that he could drive so I could feel what the car really had to offer! Let’s just that he didn’t disappoint.
We took the first lap so he could get a “feel” for the track. First time around, he did an amazing job. We got to the “staging area”, and I turned to him and said, “Wow, Love it! That was awesome!” That’s when he turned to me with a Cheshire grin and said “That was the slow lap, honey!” The next lap had me recalling some crazy carnival ride. He wasn’t kidding about the fact that was the slow lap. By the time we got back around to the staging around I wasn’t sure to pump my fist in the air with a resounding “heck yeah!” or to turn green. Either way it was F A S T.

The Ecoboost Challenge was a blast. It reminded me why my very first car was a Ford, and after experiencing the Ford Ecoboost Challenge Mr. Crunchy and I are strongly considering getting a hybrid If you want to learn more about the Ford Ecoboost Challenge make sure to check out these great Ford social media channels:
