I did receive an all expenses paid trip to Los Angeles to interview Ginnifer Goodwin, but all kid envy, giggles, and fan girling are my own
When you are parenting teens, there is always a time when they finally say they disown you. Yep, that moment comes a little more often than not when you are a Disney blogger. When I was in Los Angeles for McFarland USA, I had a chance to sit down with Ginnifer Goodwin to talk about her role in Tinkerbell and the Legend of the Neverbeast. Ginny, aka Snow White in Once Upon a Time, is one of my kids’ favorite actresses. So, I am officially disowned all because of this awesome interview. (A point I am totally ok with)
About Playing Fawn
Ginnifer voices Fawn the animal fairy in the newest Tinkerbell movie. It was really awesome to hear her take on playing a magical four inch creature. Ginnifer has a great sense of humor and was really candid with us about what it took to use only her voice to bring the bubbly of Fawn personality to life.
To have a project where I was relying solely on my voice, not having any idea what the animation was gonna look like, was really, really challenging. I had to liberate myself. I had to find a way to let go of everything physically and find a grounded real connected place from which to be larger than life.
She even jested at one point that she would’ve fired herself because she had to do more than one take. Ginnifer shared it was really eye opening how much she relied on physical movements in her acting. It was “on the job training”, but she really enjoyed the work. It was just crazy challenging.
About Being a Disneyphile
Being part of Tinkerbell and the Legend of the Neverbeast wasn’t just another acting job to Goodwin. It was part of a lifelong quest. A self professed “Disneyphile” she shared with us,
I’m a Disneyphile and always wanted to [voice act for Disney]. This to me was the pinnacle. I just always wanted to voice Animated Features for Disney.
As soon as she learned she had landed the role of Fawn, she not only felt her mission was accomplished but fell in love with the entire Tinkerbell animated series, even stating she is “shocked” the movies are direct to DVD because they are that good. (I have to agree with her on that point!)
About the “Animal Noises”
There’s a part in the movie where Fawn makes some hysterical animal noises. Since Ginnifer shared it was a challenge to use just her voice, it was really neat to hear how she came to pick the animals that she voiced. The scene is quite hilarious, and after meeting her I could picture her in the sound studio jumping around making monkey noises!
I had the most fun with the animal noises scene just cause it was so out of my wheelhouse. I was studying YouTube Videos trying to learn different animals. I was like ‘Hey, there were these monkeys that had been at the zoo. It’s like the only animal noise I make is that monkey. My sister and I grew up emulating the monkeys at the Memphis Zoo and that became the like climax animal of that scene which ended up being fun. The others were difficult, but like how do you make an elephant like trumpeting his trunk like do you make that noise?
Meeting Ginnifer Goodwin was such a fun experience. After our little chat, it was really obvious why the Disney studios though she would bring a great presence to Fawn. She’s just as fun, animated and down to Earth as you can imagine. She even laughed and told me I should’ve brought my kids when I informed her how they disowned me for this interview. We got a copy of Tinkerbell and the Legend of the Neverbeast to watch so hopefully that will get me out of the dog house 😉
You can grab your own copy too! Tinkerbell and the Legend of the Neverbeast comes out on DVD 3/3! You can pre-order Tinkerbell and the Legend of the Neverbeast DVD here!

With the return of Once upon a time recently, I have re-fallen in love with her. She is a wonderful actress and we both share the dream of voicing for Disney. Not that I would ever have a chance, but that is ok. I can always dream.
