We did receive a complimentary stay at Grand View Lodge, but all opinions and pondering of life and nature are my own.
When marriage gets to be more about bills and shuttling kids, sometimes it’s just time to have a romantic weekend getaway. That’s why hubby and I were so excited to be able to head to Grand View Lodge in Brainerd, Minnesota a few weeks back. Through all the blah skies of a Minnesota winter, hubby and I needed a chance to relax and unwind that wasn’t too far from the Twin Cities. Grand View Lodge in Brainerd Lakes area was just the remedy that the doctor ordered.
Grand View Lodge is located in Brainerd, Minnesota just a few hours drive outside of the Twin Cities. It’s perfect for a weekend getaway. You feel like you are leaving behind all the hustle and bustle of the metropolitan area, but not so far away you spend half of your time together driving to get there. We were able to enjoy the resort one of the last few snowy weekends of the season, and it couldn’t have been more perfect. We were blessed with a quiet stay that allowed us to rejuvenate ourselves and reconnect. It was really refreshing to just lie around our one room cabin and do nothing but enjoy each other’s company.
Our cabin featured great rustic charm, two queen beds, a pull out murphy bed, and a bathtub that made this girl squeal. Nothing says vacation more than being able to soak away all your worries during your stay. Most of our days were spent reading by the fireplace in our cabin, or listening to classical music while soaking in the tub. It was definitely like a little home away from home. Ok, better than my home because look at this bath tub?!
Sitting right on Gull Lake, the views from Grand View Lodge cabins were spectacular. I’m becoming quite a nature photographer in my old age, and loved bundling up every night to watch the sunset on the beach. The skies filled with such beautiful crimsons, oranges, and royal purples that soon settled into a sea of deep navy speckled with the twinkle of thousands of stars.
Getting Pampered at Glacial Waters Spa
When we weren’t enjoying the amazing watercolors of nature, we had a chance to try out the Glacial Waters Spa. This was the first time that hubby had been to a real spa, and it was quite the fun experience. If we weren’t already relaxed from our view, Glacial Waters definitely set us in the right state of mind. This state of the art spa welcomes all Grand View Lodge guests, and is very popular with the locals as well. It features some amazing treatments and spa amenities that leave you feeling like a brand new baby.
We had the chance to splurge on one of the couples’ hot stone massages. Armed with some amazingly comfy robes and cucumber water from the lounge, we set off to have all of our worries (and knots in our backs) massaged away. Just remembering what an amazing time it was makes me get all Namaste again. The services at the Glacial Waters Spa were so good, I would consider making the drive once a month just so I can try out their cascading shower massage. Seven or so shower heads over you kneading our back all at once? Yes, please!
Food at Grandview Lodge
Though most of their food was closed due to the offseason, Grand View Lodge offers six different dining destinations on the property featuring anything from snacks on the beach to four star dining at their award winning restaurant,Cru. We had the pleasure of enjoying breakfast each morning in the main lodge which featured not only a continental breakfast, but fresh waffles, breakfast meats, and a variety of other yummy goodies.
We Fell in Love with Grand View Lodge
From the adorable rustic touches, to the amazing spa services, we definitely thought Grand View Lodge was perfect for a Twin Cities romantic getaway. We had so much fun that we are considering booking our cabin again this summer and bringing the kids to see what the summer season is like. That’s the benefit of being a year round resort!
Whether you are looking to plan a romantic getaway, a summer on the lake, or a winter wonderland vacation, Grand View Lodge in Brainerd, MN has something for you. We highly recommend this resorts for locals and those wishing to travel to Minnesota alike. It’s somewhere that we plan to visit many times over during the coming years, and know you would enjoy your stay too!
