Tips to Make These Graveyard Halloween Cupcakes
Before we get to how to make these cupcakes, I want to give you a few tips. All in one easy to read place so if your ADD squirrel gets distracted you can come back here and find them here.
Tip 1: If you are using the marshmallows for grave stones, make sure to put a toothpick through the bottom so they’ll stay in the cupcake better. (Just make sure to warn your guests so they don’t get a bad surprise)
Tip 2: Ice the area for the graveyards FIRST. Trust me on this one. I’ve iced the whole thing first, and then tried to make the grave and it was a HOT mess.
Tips 3: After you cut the marshmallows in half, Use a ton of books to flatten them out as much as possible. It’s fun to get some frustration out putting your body weight on those suckers.
Tip 4: Use a meat tenderizer and a ziploc bag to smash those Oreos to bits! The finer you smash the Oreos the more it will look like freshly turned graveyard dirt!
Tip 5: Use a pastry brush to brush the excess cookie crumbs from the cupcake before you ice the rest of the cupcakes.
How to Make Halloween Cakes
Now that you have the tips! Let’s get to the instructions!
Step 1: Grab your favorite boxed cake mix, and make it per the instructions on the box for cupcakes
Step 2: Grab white icing, and add green food coloring to it. Have fun with the color. These are YOUR cupcakes after all.
Place the icing in a piping bag with a small tip. Make sure to twist bag closed and set aside.
Step 3: While the cupcakes are cooling, open a bag of Oreos. Use a spoon to part the two sides. Put the side with no cream in a Ziploc bag, and put the others aside for snacking.
Step 4: Use the meat tenderizer to pummel the Oreo cookies to tiny bits!
Step 5: After your cupcakes have cooled completely, take your icing and ice rectangular grave shapes onto the cupcakes.
Before the icing dries, sprinkle this area with the crushed oreos. Don’t worry about getting them everywhere. Tip number 6 has you covered!
Step 6: Ice the rest of the cupcakes.
Step 7: Write RIP (or some other ghoulishly fun writing) on your tombstone with your edible markers. Here are some other fun saying ideas:
- Ima Rotten
- Barry M. Deep
- Pearl E. Gates
