5 Ways to Set Health Goals That You Can Stick To Easily!
In the last year, I’ve been diagnosed with fibromyalgia and ,most recently, hypermobility syndrome. The short of it means that I am always tired like I have a bad flu, and now I’ve learned that my joints are a hot, wobbly mess which is why I am always in pain. I’ve been seeing some great doctors to help me with all this, but it means that I’ve had to learn to make yourself a priority
If you struggle finding me time too, click here to learn how to make yourself a priority (even when your life is chaos)
You don’t have to be a hot mess like I am to know that it’s really important to make yourself a priority. Women are usually really bad about taking care of themselves. We put everyone else’s needs before our own, and eventually, we end up being a burnout out mess. It’s not good for us, and it’s not good for our friends and family either.
5 Easy Ways to Set Health Goals
1. What’s important to you?: This is the number one question to ask yourself, not what other want you to make important. What is important to you? Is it trying to walk without being tired or being able to canoe on the lake for hours? Maybe it’s just about making yourself a priority. Dig deep, and figure out what is truly important to you.
2. In a year where would you like to be? : Setting long term goals is good, too. In a year, where do you see yourself? Would you like to have more energy? Do you have a favorite activity you want to be able to do until your little heart desires?
3. What’s one small change you can make that makes a big difference?: Setting health and weight loss goals isn’t all about tackling mountains. Small changes are just as important. What’s a small change that you can make that won’t make you feel like you are deprived or your universe is going to cave in? What are some super small changes you think you could stick to?
4. What activities do you love?: This question helps for two reasons. If your activity is a physical one, how can you fit in your day more to get moving more? If it’s not physical, how can you use it to reward yourself for making your health a priority? Trust me, with a good bribe it’s amazing what things you will do.
5. Journal, journal, journal: You guys know I am obsessed with journaling. Journaling is an awesome way to check in with how you feel mentally, physically, and spiritually. Sometimes all you need to do is get your feelings out on paper and you might not put your sorrow into a cookie instead.
My health goal this year is to get my life back. Because of my hypermobility, I have to start activity slow and steady. The Fit Break app, that Weight Watchers has now, is going to be great. They are just short one minute videos that are going to get me moving more at a pace that’s not going to kill my body. I’ve been so bad about moving lately, and it is my number one priority for 2016. This year it’s going to be all about making my body stronger and making better food choices to get my energy levels back.
Have you noticed that my overall goal is not about losing weight? Quite frankly, I could care less about a number on the scale. For me, it’s all about making my body be a part of my life that helps me live the life that I want to live. If I lose weight in the process, awesome, but it’s not the whole thing.
It’s so important realizing that health is so much more than a number on a scale. It’s about how you feel, how you move, and how you eat. How you mentally feel about the whole thing is a huge part of the process, and that’s why it’s so important to incorporate things you love to do so you WANT to keep doing it.
I hope you guys join me in getting healthier. You know I’ll be blogging about it. This year is all about conquering mountains, being awesome, and getting my life back. What about you?
