UPDATE: We Did it! Here’s a message from Nicole (Rehab Addict). Demo has been stopped!
DEMOLITION HAS BEEN HALTED:) HIP, HIP HOORAY!!!! HIP, HIP, HOORAY!!!!! THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH FOR ALL YOUR HELP!!! STAY TUNED….(now I can go back to bed:))
It was my extreme pleasure last week to meet Nicole Curtis from Rehab Addict at an open house in Minneapolis last week! We were truly honored to see some of her amazing work in person, and I have to tell you that the passion she has for restoring homes is truly inspiring.
Luckily for you guys, just for Crunchy readers there is an exclusive interview coming up with Nicole so you can learn more about what she is all about.
In the meantime, Nicole needs our help! Nicole is in the business of saving historic homes from demolition. She takes homes others wouldn’t even touch and turns them into amazing homes with great character and personality. She reuses as much as possible in these home and shows you how to do it on her DIY show “Rehab Addict”.
Here’s a letter from Nicole:
The City of Minneapolis has authorized the demolition of the home at 2637 Emerson Ave North—I was told that there would be no demolitions for a few months until some things were put in order with the city. Then a backhoe was delivered to this property. I would gladly take this home and restore it-but have been told no. I have been in the home and compared to the Dollar House-it’s Turnkey. It costs the taxpayers at least 15k to demo a house – North MPLS already has an estimated 450 vacant lots. Please start screaming with me. I do not want to see this house go down.
Nikki
How can you help?

Even if you don’t live in the Minneapolis area, let’s show Nicole we support the great things she does to restore and preserve history. These houses are built back up to their former glory rather than adding more garbage to the landfill.
Please remember to be respectful when contacting to support Nicole and her great cause!

That is so great that she helps restore historic homes. It makes me so sad to see the beautiful craftsmanship be demo-ed. 🙁
Crunchy Frugalista says
Sarah, it is sad especially when you know someone like Nikki that wants the home. Her work is absolutely amazing, and it helps saves the neighborhoods as well!
Tree @ Mother of Pearl It Is says
What a beautiful old home… it looks alot like the house my grandparents lived in when I was growing up. I would hate to see it destroyed!!
Crunchy Frugalista says
What’s sad is that once the knock it down that craftsmanship is gone! I hope they change their minds!
SHELLEY R ZUREK says
Please help support this important cause.
Crunchy Frugalista says
Thanks for the support Shelley!

How SAD!!! It breaks my heart to see homes demolished with LOTS of good life still left in them. A home in my area was torn down and buried in its own basement before the new golf course was built in its place. All contents were buried with it. These things break my heart. 🙁
Good Luck to the Rehab Addict!

We have the same problem here in Fort Wayne. There are some amazing homes downtown that are just dilapidated. They would be gorgeous if someone would just care for them.
Danielle P. says
That sucks that they won’t let her keep the house. I mean really, have the taxpayers pay $15k to tear it down or let someone take it and preserve it and make it better for herself and the community, and not on the taxpayers dime! This just doesn’t make sense! =( Hope something works out for the good.
Crunchy Frugalista says
Yeah, I don’t get it either. Let’s cross our fingers that Nicole is able to get her hands on this great house!
Ronni Keller says
Once it’s officially declared ‘historic’ wouldn’t the city/county do everything to keep it up unless it uninhabitable? I don’t get why they wouldn’t let her tune it into something amazing! You just don’t see those on every corner!
I say, LET HER DO HER THING!!
Crunchy Frugalista says
Love it, Ronni! Let her do her thing!!! It may not be deemed historic yet that might be part of the problem!
Lessie Purpera says
What awesome potential!
Jodi @ A Mom Having Fun says
I really hope they can save that home! It’s so sad that the city is so quick to tear it down, especially when there is someone whiling to buy and rehab it.
