As we head into Autumn, days are starting to turn cooler, kids are back to school, and we’re turning our dinners from summer bounty, to fall. These are the days my family loves to pull out board games, munch on some homemade goodies and relax. Our favorite treat is homemade pizza. Even if you’ve never made bread before, you’ll find this recipe easy enough to become a staple in your recipe box.
Homemade Pizza
We make these a little more personal by oiling a jumbo muffin pan, lining the cups with dough, and filling with our favorite toppings.
What are your favorite toppings for pizzas?
Ingredients
1 pkg active dry yeast
1 cup warm water
2 1/2 cups flour (I use white whole wheat for a hearty crust. All-purpose works just as well)
2 T olive or vegetable oil
1 t sugar
1 t salt
1 can tomato sauce
1 sm can tomato paste
1/2 t oregano
1/2 t basil
Directions:
In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in the warm water. Measure the flour, oil, sugar, and salt in a medium bowl. Once the yeast foams, add to the dry ingredients and stir until well incorporated. Coat with oil, cover with plastic wrap and let sit in a warm place until doubled in size.
In a small bowl, mix the tomato sauce and paste with the herbs and garlic. Let sit until the dough is ready.
Ready your pizza pans by coating with olive oil or dusting with corn meal. Punch down the dough, cut in half, and spread on one of the pans. Repeat with the other half. Spread with pizza sauce and top with your favorite toppings.
Bake in a 425 degree oven until light brown, 15 to 20 minutes.
