Iron Man 3 is the third installment in the Iron Man movie series. At the beginning of Iron Man 3, we find Tony Stark after kicking some butt in New York with the other Avengers, but something is desperately different. The normally overly confident Stark finds himself breaking down, he can’t seem to wrap his mind around what he saw in New York.
I’m Tony Stark. I build neat stuff, got a great girl, occasionally save the world. So why can’t I sleep? ~Tony Starke
No longer the CEO of Stark Industries, and not coping well after New York, he spends more time tinkering with his Iron Man suits and new prototypes than being a real superhero. It really has you wondering if Iron Man retired, or has Tony finally just reached his breaking point?
Enter The Mandarin
Iron Man 3 introduces a new villian, The Mandarin. The Mandarin is a terrorist that has a few “lessons” he wants to teach the world, and more specifically teach the President of the United States. He cuts in feeds of national broadcasting to reign terror upon the people of America brutally executing innocent women and children on live television.
You’re not a man. You’re nothing more than a maniac. I’m not afraid of you. No politics here: just good old fashioned revenge! ~Tony Starke
War Machine, now known as Iron Patriot, is the government’s way of dealing with Mandarin, but Mandarin is always two steps ahead. Iron Patriot is constantly sent to school houses and women’s workshops instead of where the true evil lies. War Machine is obviously not cutting it, but will Iron Man pull it together to defeat Manadarin?!?
Tony Stark Stripped Back
My favorite part about Iron Man 3, is that you get to see Tony Stark stripped back. He is not the pompous womanizer from the first Iron Man film. The audience really sees the struggles he is facing. Fighting aliens with the Avengers, has really done a number on him, and he’s really fights to keep it together.
Things are different now, I have to protect the one thing that I can’t live without. That’s you. ~Tony Starke
In previous two films, we begin to see Tony’s transformation from rich playboy to happily settled down (with Pepper Potts). Iron Man 3 takes this a bit further as Tony really digs into what is important. Is it important to save the world all the time, or does he need to save himself, his sanity, and the woman he loves?
Action Packed with a Twist
Of course the film is chock full of all the mind blowing action you would expect of the Iron Man movies, but there is a kick butt twist. This time Pepper Potts gets in on the action!
Tony’s newest Iron Man suit comes to him when signaled, but ,when his home is under attack by Mandarin, the suit accidently heads for Pepper Potts instead! Pepper donning the suit is just a taste of the action later in the movie, where she gets a real chance to kick some butt and takes some names. It’s a nice change from the meek Pepper of the first film! (Girl Power!)
As always, Marvel and Disney do a fabulous job making some really amazing action sequences that keep you on the edge of your seat. I really recommend seeing this movie in 3D, it takes the action up a notch and makes you feel as though you are there kicking butt with Iron Man 3! As far as the action goes, I have three words for you “barrel of monkeys!” (Now you have to see the film to see what crazy talk I am spewing!)

Iron Man 3 is a fabulous movie that any Marvel/Disney fan would enjoy. It is a bit different from the previous Iron Man films because Tony Stark is seen on a much deeper level. We get an inside look into his struggles and his relationship with Pepper. Though different, it’s actually one of the reasons this is my favorite Iron Man film. I always knew that Tony had some depth to him and now we get a chance to see it.
The film is perfect for kids ages 8 and up, and I would really recommend seeing it when it hits theaters May 3rd because the 3D action and special effects aren’t quite the same once it’s out on DVD! (Unless you are Tony Starke in real life and have your own screening room. Plus, why are you reading this review if you are Tony? You already KNOW how awesome this film is!)
