I wrote this review while participating in a campaign by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Aflac and received a promotional item to thank me for taking the time to participate
I have talked about my family, and specifically how sick my youngest daughter is. One thing I may not have told you guys before is how passionate I am about making sure you have the right insurance. You are probably asking how can one be “passionate” about something as “boring” as insurance. I can’t explain why, but I can tell you that I am. There is nothing better in the world than knowing that your family is covered if something were to happen.
My feeling is so strong about insurance that I was actually licensed to sell insurance when I worked for a few mortgage companies. I had actually received several sales awards in my division for insurance because I believed whole heartedly that you need to have those supplemental coverages that protect you should someone in your family fall ill.
I am not just talking about health insurance, I am talking about insurance that covers everything else. When my husband found out he needed knee surgery a few weeks back, I looked into what short term disability he had. He was only covered for $150/week! That was after an 8 day waiting period.
My husband is the primary wage earner in our home, and I can assure you that we cannot afford to live off of $150/week! If his disability had been longer than a week, we would’ve definitely have been in some serious trouble! Thanks goodness he was able to go back to work today.
Being prepared for unplanned disabilities is so important, and that’s why I am taking advantage of the open enrollment period for our benefits. My husband’s surgery scared me so much that I am making sure that I am informed about our coverage and what supplemental coverages are available through his employer. If there aren’t any, I will definitely be looking into some!
Check out this infographic. It really opened my eyes! 2012_infographic_OpenEnrollment (1)
Think about this. Could you and your family live on $150/week? Scary isn’t it!
Angela Kinder says
We have to live on $350 a week, and that includes bills and groceries. Its really hard sometimes, but having had to live paycheck to paycheck most of my life, I’ve gotten used to it.
Michelle says
This is so true. I’ve heard horror stories from a couple friends that had to go on short-term disability that had no idea just how little coverage there was.
Ellen Christian says
It is so important to be prepared. My husband is disabled and medical expenses can be awful.
Pam says
My daughter has a rare eye disease and I know how important insurance can be to cover the costs.

Luckily we are all healthy and have no medical problems, but you never know when something could suddenly arise. Being prepared is very important!
