Disclosure: I received an all expense paid trip to interview Revenge show runner, but all fan girling, Revenge envy, and What Would Emily Do funnies are my own
One of my favorite mantras of life is “What Would Emily Do?” That girl gives the meaning of Revenge a whole new meaning. If you haven’t tuned in yet, you don’t know what you are missing. This girl’s been an avid revenge fan since it’s very first season. That’s why when I was able to see Emily VanCamp at the Iron Man 3 premiere last year, I officially fan girled down the red carpet! This trip to Los Angeles I had the chance to fan girl again when I had a chance to sit down with show runner Sunil Nayar, and get some inside scoop on what it’s like to live in the world of Revenge.

He shared with us that he joined Revenge at the beginning of the second season. Before Revenge, he was on a little show called Body of Proof. (We both held a moment of silence for that show. It was such a disappointment when it got cancelled). Now that he is on Revenge he is busy coordinating, editing, and promoting the show.
One thing that I learned talking to this ABC Showrunner is that the television series run extremely close to the date they air. Before meeting with the producers, I always thought that the shows were shot way ahead of time and just waiting to air. Speaking to Sunil, we realized that as of the day we spoke with him the Revenge finale was filmed, but still waiting the final edits for the season finale to air on Sunday May 11. We got to see this first hand when we got to watch a sneak peak of the Nashville finale. It was really neat to learn just how tight of a production schedule shows like Revenge run.
After talking to Sunil about life on the Revenge set, I was dying to know where Revenge was filmed. He revealed that the show is actually filmed in Manhattan Beach, California. It’s kind of mind blowing what a great job the producers and directors do to make the west coast look like the east coast. How do they do that? The show runner revealed that they use CGI to remove an awful lot of palm trees from the scenes shot on location. I’m sure they do a lot more than that, but it’s pretty cool what they can do with CGI skills to transform sunny California into the Hamptons.
On Life on the Set
Revenge is a show where woman is pitted against woman; it’s Emily against Victoria. Sunil talked to us a little bit about what the atmosphere was like between the cast members on the set, and he had one easy word: family. He really said that there is a great camaraderie between even the most veteran cast mates. Sunil shares ” (Revenge) is a really happy place on set. Everyone has been together from day one, and they are really a supportive group of people.”
He even dished on what it was like working on set with actors that are dating. (Emily Van Camp (Emily) and Joshua Bowman (Daniel Grayson) are dating in real life) It’s the first time the show runner has worked on set with a real life dating couple, but he says they are great and have their relationship both professionally and personally together. “They are great!” he beams.
On Working with Madeleine Stowe
The great thing about the Revenge cast is it is full of up and coming stars like Emily Van Camp as well as veterans like Madeleine Stowe. Madeleine Stowe is a veteran actress on both television and the big screen. Sunil shares that “[Madeleine] is really smart.” She has such a great eye for where the writers want her character to go, and what she feels like she needs to do as an actress to help get the character there. Anyone that has watched Revenge knows that Madeleine plays Victoria Grayson very, very well. It was really intriguing to hear that Madeline is great at giving insight to the writers and producers on how to make Victoria Grayson deliciously evil.
On the Future of Revenge: Will Patrick be Back?
At the time of the interview, Sunil hadn’t gotten official word of Revenge’s renewal for another season, but he was pretty sure Emily’s path of destruction wasn’t going anywhere. (Since then there has been an official announcement that Revenge is returning for another season) As a fan of the show, one of my favorite dynamics was the relationship between Nolan and Patrick. Since Patrick had been sent off to avoid Victoria’s husband’s wrath, I asked if he foresaw Patrick (actor Justin Hartley) returning to the show. Though Justin is off to work on other ABC projects (currently met up with him shooting on set for the ABC series Mistresses), Sunil said that there’s always the possibility he might come back, and that he too enjoyed the depth seen in Nolan courtesy of Patrick’s presence.. With Revenge, I guess we will all have to stay tuned to see if Patrick’s dreamy face will be back in another episode trying to steal Nolan’s heart.
On the Revenge Finale
All 25 bloggers tried our darndest to try and get some spoilers out from his lips, but sadly they were tightly sealed. Trust me when I said we tried hard. 3 rounds of 8 bloggers and we couldn’t get him to slip up. What we were able to tease out of him is that someone else dies? (SPOILER ALERT) I asked him if he meant in addition to Pascal dying on the helipad, and he confirmed with a big fat YES! Which means there’s more victims to be had on May 11th!
Though he wouldn’t give specifics, what he did say was that it is definitely one to watch, and after seeing last Sunday’s episode I can’t imagine how it can get any better. (Though with the talented Revenge writers I am sure they are up to the challenge) If you want to have a little more fun, you can catch me live tweeting during the Revenge finale.
I’ll be live tweeting on Twitter using the handle @crunchy_f and hashtags #revengefinale and #abctvevent. Make sure to join me tweet, retweet, and favorite my tweets to get in on the latest from the Revenge finale. There may be some spoilers in my thread that day. (You have been warned ;))

LOVE LOVE LOVE Revenge! It’s definitely my guilty pleasure show that I watch after everyone is in bed. I can’t wait for the finale. I adore the scenes with Nolan and Patrick…well, really ANY scene with Nolan in it, he’s by far my favorite character 🙂

I had recently read that the finale is supposed to be even more shocking than Pascal’s death. I can’t even imagine what that must mean, but I can’t wait to see it!
