Sometimes you just need to tuck little inspirational things around your home to remind yourself that life totally doesn’t have to suck. That’s why inspirational rock art that kicks ass is the next project up my sleeve. Sure, you need to be inspired, but you guys know me and I’m not all about that fluffy, puffy stuff. These are fun little rock art projects that ANYONE can do, that will make you feel like the warrior princess that you are.
After many, many decades of trying to buy a home, the hubster and I finally were able to bribe someone get someone to  finance our first house! YIPEE! Which now means that I can decorate my house just the quirky, crazy way that I want. It’s mine, mwhahahaha, and the quirky is about to hit the fan…….errr, or something like that.
My friend and I were cruising Pinterest last weekend, and there were so many awesome rock art ideas, but none of them had a fun twist to them. Sure they were GORGEOUS, but none of them had the quirk or smart assery that we love so much. Seeing this, I figured this must be remedied. You can make inspirational rock art that inspires you to conquer the day, AND also put a smile on your quirky face! The best part is you can make up your own sayings that will get you motivated to live the life you were meant to live. Kick ass and take names, folks! That’s the only way to live 😉
Before I get into the how to make these quirky inspirational rocks, I have a confession to make. Nothing life shattering, but I feel I need to confess that I’m a WEE bit addicted to Sharpie. Yep, those markers that mark all the stuff. I’m that dork that goes to the office supply store and sees the new colors and squees with glee. (Just ask my kids, I may or may not have done this while they were with me a few times.) If there is a Sharpie out there, I literally have them all. Well, all that I know about anyway. There’s so many uses for them, plus so many colors available, it makes my heart sing just a little bit. (You know pens make you dork out too! Don’t judge!)
Sharpie markers can be used for crafting, marking ever important items like kids’ clothes, documents, mailboxes, you name it. Personally, I’m a big fan of making art and crafting with the markers. It’s a fun portable way to get in some creative time when you are on the go, and it’s a brand that stands behind their products so I know that they will continue to work until I use them all up.
That’s why when I heard that Sharpie had a new line of markers I had to get my hands on some. Sharpie Extreme is the new line and it’s super duty. Sure, Sharpie is a permanent marker, but these bad boys withstand snow, sun, sleet, and hail! In Minnesota, we need sturdy because we have some pretty harsh weather conditions up here. (Arctic tundra anyone?) Who has time to keep marking things over and over when you are outside. Not this gal.
That’s why this inspirational rock art craft is putting Sharpie Extreme to the test. Now that we own our own house, I have a garden that needs a little sprucing up, a little quirky touch. We headed to the craft store and grabbed rocks and white coasters so we get our crafting on.
For our inspirational sayings, we decided to have a little fun and write sayings that I say all the time like “rock your awesome” and “love yo’self” and “kick ass” because that’s the kinda stuff that inspires me. You can check out how to do the rocks with those sayings or you can have making your own rock art. Don’t judge yourself, just have FUN with it.

You may be rolling your eyes around in your head, and telling yourself some nonsense about how you aren’t “creative” at all, but here’s the thing; EVERYONE is CREATIVE. You just have to learn how to harness it. The first step to that is to NOT judge yourself. Don’t expect to be the next Van Gogh or the next Picasso. Just create things that make your life rock.
When I was a kid, I was the “intellectual one.” That was the role I had in my family. My sister could draw anything and everything under the sun. I took that to mean I wasn’t creative. Fast forward 30+ years later, and a lot of life lessons later, and come to find out, I am creative. I’m just not Martha Stewart, “run of the mill” creative. And that’s what life is all about. Finding out how YOU rock, and embracing that! Little projects like this are a great way to dabble with that creativity.
Now to the “how to” part! Here’s what you need for this inspirational rock art craft that kicks ass:
Inspirational Rock Art that Kicks Ass
Supplies:
- Package of Sharpie Extreme Markers
- Flat Stones or Plaster Coasters
- White Paint (optional)
- Other Sharpie Marker Colors (Optional)
- Your Kick Ass Creativity (Yep, even YOU can be creative)
Directions:Â
- Before you start, brain storm a few sayings that you want to write on the rocks. Depending on the rock size you can write one word per rock or a whole saying. You can always check out these self acceptance quotes or these motivational quotes for inspiration.
- Once you have your sayings, decide if the rocks that you bought are light enough to see what’s written on them. If not, you can always add white paint or decide to write on the coasters like I did.
- In the center of the rock, write your word or saying. Then on the outsides make fun designs. My favorites to do are swirls. Just have fun with it.
- If you feel like it, add more Sharpie colors with the permanent markers to jazz it up a bit.
- Place them around your home or in your garden for you to get a little kick of inspiration next time you are out and about.
How are you going to use your inspirational rock art to add more quirk to your home? Â

You could totally customize them to make them as gifts. Just let them dry a bit, then tie them neatly with some pretty twine and add your own gift tag!
