There is a reason that where I live is called Minne”Snow”ta. From about October to April we don’t see grass. That’s why it’s really important to learn how much snow is coming your way. For us, it could cause life and death situations.
There was a day when I used to wonder what kind of idiot gets stuck in a blizzard with no provisions and ends up crawling to their death never to be seen again. That stuff is only on TV, right?! Well, let’s just say I have a case of humble pie to eat.
Our first year here in Minnesota, there was a blizzard predicted on the exact same day as our daughter had a doctor’s appointment at the Mayo Clinic. We had waited months for this appointment, and we weren’t about to reschedule.
Despite the warnings about blizzards, we headed off on a two hour drive towards Mayo Clinic. It wasn’t until the main highway was SHUT down due to drifting snow that things got hairy. We ended up trying other roads to get to the clinic, and ended up getting stuck in a snow drift in the middle of the road!
As if that wasn’t bad enough, I wasn’t wearing my winter coat nor did I have one in my car. We had no food, water, or anything else in case we got stuck. Our only luck that day was that other cars were behind us, and helped my husband push our car out of the drift. The short amount of time that took, my husband’s ears were SHEET WHITE and encased in ice. That is what we call frostbite, ladies and gentleman.
After this “adventure,” I’ve always learned to be prepared and know what kind of snow storms are predicted. That’s where SnowCast App has become my best friend. It alerts me not only of snow that’s in the immediate future, but snow storms that are coming in the next week or so. It came in really handy the day that we just had 8-10 inches of snow. We weren’t caught off guard this time. It’s available right now on all iOs systems.
SnowCast App is only $2.99 and if you live in a place where snow is possible, it’s worth every penny. It will help you plan out your day, and make sure that you don’t get stuck in a snow drift like our family did. Here’s some of the cool features of the SnowCast app.
