When you are a kid, you can’t wait to grow up. I am here to tell you that sometimes being an adult stinks! Not just stinks, but really stinks!!!! Yep, that’s the kind of day I am having today.
As a kid you have this whole mental picture of adult life. You’re driving cool cars, doing what you want, and not having anyone tell you what to do. It’s like paradise, that’s why we all rush to grow up! Last warning kids, I am telling you it’s a LIE! (:))
Being adult is filled with times when you spend hours doing everything you were supposed to do, but end up getting screwed because someone else dropped the ball. (Yes, I am in TOTAL pity party mode here) It’s two steps forward and fifty steps back. At least that’s how it feels lately!
Let’s take today for example. My lovely Monday started off with calling our old insurance company. They are trying to collect almost $3000 worth of over payments from us. One part of the over payment was my son’s medications and the other part is my daughter’s.
When Mr. Crunchy left his last job, I refilled all of our kids meds before our insurance expired. I even CALLED the mail order pharmacy to make sure it would all be ok before my son lost coverage. I was told sure, no problem. Well, $2,000 later I am now having to chase for them to correct the situation or my insurance company is going to sue us. (Yeah, me!)
Then on top of that I get a new collection letter from the insurance company to find out that they paid $300 for medications for my daughter because her COBRA ended on 5/11. My daughter went into the Mayo clinic hospital on 5/10 so I called my insurance company to triple check how much we needed to send to cover her until 5/18. Guess what? Yep, told something wrong AGAIN! My daughter’s COBRA payment was short by less than $30 because in April premiums changed. Sigh!
I have literally spent HOURS and HOURS on the phone trying to prevent these messes only to have to spend more HOURS and HOURS on the phone to get them corrected. $3,000 may not be a lot to these big companies, but to my family it’s huge.
It’s days like today that I realize that being an adult is not all it is cracked up to be at times. I realize that I am not super woman, and that even sometimes I need to take a day off from reality. Otherwise, you might find me in the corner gurgling and talking to myself.
Off to the post office I went today to send off two appeal forms with a hope and a prayer that they agree with my opinions and don’t ask me to pay back nearly $3,000 that we don’t have. Because if they attempt to sue us, it won’t only wreck our finances but wreck our chances to buy a house here in our new hometown.
You try really hard not to let days like today get to you, but when you don’t seem to get much relief it’s really hard to not stress out. The key to surviving days like today is to to remember that though being an adult blows it’s important to breathe and to remember that it’s five o’clock somewhere. (Pass the tequila and the salt)
Maybe tomorrow will be a better day, here’s to hoping!
