I was able to attend Disney’s Star Wars Day on an all inclusive paid trip courtesy of Disney, but all wit, humor, and ninja skills are my own.
You guys know that I am an uber geek when it comes to things like Marvel, Star Wars, and Dr. Who. That’s why when I got a chance to spend May the Fourth with Vanessa Marshall the voice actress in the upcoming Disney XD series there might have been a geekgasm or two involved.
Hanging in Los Angeles with R2D2 and real live storm troopers was a surreal experience. It was almost like being transplanted to the outer realms of the Empire. You never know, they could’ve been looking for recruits for the 501st. During our evening, we had a chance to hang with the storm troopers, flirt with R2D2 (he can be kind of handsy), and pick the brain of Vanessa Marshall, the voice actress of Hera.
May the 4th wasn’t just an awesome time to hang out with the troopers and droids, it was also an amazing chance to learn about Star Wars Rebels and talk to Vanessa Marshall who plays Hera in the upcoming series. During the dinner, we got a sneak peak of Star Wars Rebels which will be debuting in an hour time slot on Disney XD in the fall. Though I am not a big fan of watching kids’ cartoons, after watching the trailer even I would enjoy watching the series. (Yes, I know I am an adult sized child). After some exclusive Star Wars rebels behind the scenes looks, we got a chance to open up the floor and talk with Vanessa Marshall. Vanessa was so amazingly kind and heart warming. She was very fun to hang out with during the event, and it was quite refreshing to get to hang out with her for the evening.
Vanessa didn’t come across as just some voice actress that wanted to promote her new project. She was very passionate and personable. She even took the time with me on a personal level. See my eldest daughter Keiran has talked to me about wanting to be a voice actress. Vanessa was not only amazingly kind to talk to me about the life of voice acting, but even offered to let my daughter email her so she could point her in the right direction. That’s what you call an amazingly sweet person that has a passion for what she does. Check out this video I took during our evening. There’s a part where she gets choked up thanking us for what we do as women bloggers. (I will totally admit that I choked up too when she was speaking. She was that moving)
My kids are obsessed with Star Wars and the shows on Disney XD, so I wanted to ask Vanessa what it was like to play a strong female character on Star Wars Rebels. Her answer was really awe inspiring:
I am thrilled! I am really thrilled! I didn’t try to create a strong female character. I tried to create a strong character who happens to be female. Having said that, both Hera and Sabine are great role models. Everyone is equally oppressed in the Empire. It spans race and gender. You are either for or against the Empire in Rebels.
It was truly an honor to meet Vanessa Marshall and hang out with the Star Wars Rebels characters. If you are looking for a great new show for your kids, and adult Star Wars geeks alike, to watch make sure to look for Star Wars Rebels on Disney XD this fall!

I am sure if you put your mind to it Ms. Miranda, we might be able to take Los Angeles by storm very soon.
