I will be the first to confess that I am a sucker for a romantic movie. Add to that fact it’s a Nicholas Sparks’ movie, then I am really in love. Last week, I had a chance for The Longest Ride Movie review PLUS a chance to interview the movie’s stars Britt Robertson and Scott Eastwood (hello, yummy). If you are a fan of romantic movies, that also have a little of action, read on.
One things that is certain about Nicholas Sparks is that he LOVES romance and that he loves carrying his readers (or viewers in this case) through those tales of love through letters. The Longest Ride follows two couples and their love stories, separated by decades but joined through a chance meeting and their love of art. It’s a classic Nicholas Sparks’ movie, but with some added action (hello, bull riders).
The Longest Ride is the love story of Luke (a former bull riding champion) and Sophia, a sorority sister. They have a chance meeting after Sophia’s sorority sister begs her to don some cowgirl boots and head to the local rodeo. (hello, hotties) After she sees Luke for the first time, their eyes meet and luck has them continually bump into each. They quickly fall in love, but Luke has a secret he’s keeping from Sophia that might just tear them apart.
During their whirlwind romance, they happen by a car that has gone off the road during a bad storm. They come to the rescue of Ira, played by Alan Alda, who, even though badly injured, begs Sophia to grab a basket still in his burning car. As he begins to recouperate, the odd couple bond and Ira shares his letters with Sophia. The love story of Ira and Ruth unfolds, and your heart is warmed at the purity of their love despite all odds.
Through flashback sequences, we follow the love of Ruth and Ira as Sophia reads the letters to Ira. It rips open your heart, makes your heart sing with joy, and leaves you longing for a love like theirs; a love that transcends time. It is truly a beautiful love story about adversity, loyalty, and passion.
I really enjoyed The Longest Ride, and will definitely be reading The Longest Ride book now that I’ve seen the movie. That’s why it was so awesome to be able to have a quick chat with Scott Eastwood and Britt Robinson the next day! We had a round table press interview with them.
As we entered the room, Britt and Scott were really inviting. It was actually really funny because as I shook Scott’s hand he asked me if I had writing on my arms. I had gone to a conference two weeks before and there was still small remnants of a henna tattoo on my arms. Nothing like meeting a celebrity and they aren’t sure if you have a weird nervous habit.
They were both excited to get involved with the project because they loved the director, George Tillman, Jr, and were both really big fans of The Notebook. One fun tidbit that Scott shared with us that even though he didn’t ride an actual bull during filming, he decided to do so afterwards. I asked him what made him decide to do that after all was said and done. He shared, “I have been a big fan of rodeo since I was a kid. Then I become a fan of PBR (professional bull riding). One of my best friends had bucked a bull and kept calling me. He told me, “If you don’t buck a bull you will never hear the end of it from me.'”
So to pay respect to the professional bull riders he befriended during filming, and to earn some cred with his buddy, Scott Eastwood bucked a bull. Needless to say he said it was a once in a lifetime experience, and he doesn’t plan on doing it again. It definitely gave him even more respect for what PBR riders do! You can check out Scott Eastwood riding a bull on Jimmy Fallon!
If you are looking for a great date night movie or a night out with the gals, I really recommend The Longest Ride. My pal Chrysa, from Thrifty Jinxy, and I went to the screening and we had a blast!
