Don’t let all the St Patrick’s Day Crafts be for the kiddos! This fun St Patrick’s Day craft can be a little festivity to brighten up your life too! You guys know I am all about the easy crafts. You don’t have to be St. Martha Stewart to make this cute lucky penny holder!
When I was a little kid, I was obsessed with picking up spare change I would find on the road/sidewalks/whatever. It was always cool to watch my piggy bank fill up, but then my ADD would kick in and there was something that I just HAD to buy and that change would disappear. That’s too bad because had I saved my pennies up fro 45 years like this guy, I could’ve cashed them in for bank! Talk about an easy savings plan!
Anyhoo, in my world terra cotta pot crafts are kinda like the new mason jar crafts. There are so many coo things you can do with them including this Lucky Pot o Gold craft or this Candy Corn Terra Cotta Pot Craft! (Yup, you guessed it another St Patrick’s day craft) There are so many cute things you can do with them, they are super inexpensive, and if you mess up you can just paint over them!
That’s the secret to my kind of crafting. If something goes awry turn it into something that makes you look like you did it on purpose. That’s what I do when my lines are not exactly straight or my handwriting looks like a 5 year old wrote it. Just have fun with it. That’s the best part of making St Patrick’s Day crafts. Don’t worry about making it look like something on Pinterest! Take pride in what you make even if it is to laugh at yourself! Trust me, I have MANY epic failures over the years. I’ve been collecting them to share my epic craft failures with you guys in a blog post near you soon.

St Patrick’s Day Craft: Lucky Penny Holder
This is a super easy, super fun, (& super cheap) craft for you and your little leprechauns!
Supplies:
- Terra Cotta Pots
- Green Craft Paints
- Gold Metallic Paint
- Black Craft Paint
- Paintbrushes
- Newspaper
- Pennies
- Hot Glue Gun
- Hot Glue Sticks
- Gorilla Glue
(small terracotta pots)
put down some newspaper to keep things from getting too messy. Next, get out the paints. Any kind of crafting paint would work fine, I used acrylics because that’s what I had lying around. I mixed up blue and yellow and added white to make different tints and shades. You can really do whatever you want when it comes to the decorating of these, the sky’s the limit!
I mixed my paint up in a few coffee filters (cheap & easy pallet for your paints)
After letting the pots dry from about 15 minutes, you can begin embellishing them.
If you want to glue pennies around the outside like I did, be very careful not to get any glue on yourself. Don’t let young children do this part on their own, especially if you use GorillaGlue or a hot glue gun. let them pick out the shinier pennies for you to glue on the pot yourself.
Let the pennies and other designs dry for another 15 minutes. If you want these to last and be reusable every year, take them outside and spray with Mod Podge (follow directions on the can). After they’re dry, fill with pennies, gold chocolate coins, or whatever else you can dream up!
