Winter Homemade Body Scrub to Pamper Yourself for Pennies
This homemade body scrub may contain affiliate links, but mama’s gotta eat, yo!
Winter can be totally brutal on your skin. This girl learned that WAY before she moved just a few inches south of the Arctic Circle.
The dryer, cooler air can really just sap the moisture out of your skin and leave it crying sorrowful songs of “water……..water….water…..” like they thing they are in some sort of Sahara Desert.
In my case, I have Hashimoto’s Hypothyroidism, so I’m the lucky duck that gets “winter skin” all year round.
Yep, even when I was living in Florida the land of sunshine my skin would plead for moisture like it had been low crawling across a desert without an oasis to be seen for thousands of miles.
With everything negative, there’s a positive and the positive is that I’ve learned to come up with fun homemade body scrubs and homemade foot scrubs that not only smell amazing, but they will leave your skin feeling soft AND hydrated.
In a past life, I tried to make my own home bath and body business when I was living out in California.
It was such a good time mixing quality essential oils with my creativity to come up with products that people loved.
Great combinations like sandalwood and orange or lavender with mint were a fun time ;).
It’s this love of making homemade body scrubs that helped me come up with this chocolate body scrub. (Psstt It’s made from all things edible….wink…..wink…)
Ok, got distracted there for a moment, mmmmmm……chocolate…….Back to the point.
Winter. BLEGH.
If you are tired of feeling like you have scales rather than skin, then you really need to make this winter homemade body scrub. I
t’s super duper frugal, way cheaper than buying stuff at the store even if that store is Wal-mart, and it’s made from easy to find, high end (but frugal) ingredients that will leave you feeling soft as a baby’s bum.

Hi!
I’ve never seen a scrub recipe that uses apple cider vinegar. What is this do? Also, am I correct in assuming that if you use essential oils you won’t have a vinegar smell? And, that the dye is so light, it won’t stain the skin, right?
THANKS SO MUCH! I can’t wait to try!
Ash Sears says
Yup, you shouldn’t have an issue with any of it 🙂 Apple Cider Vinegar just helps the scent stay with the salt. Most commercial bath salts use alcohol to do this but that can be harsh on the skin.

Hi there! I am hoping to try this next weekend as gifts. I do have one question though. How long is the shelf life for these? I wanted to start Christmas gifts already but Christmas is still a good distance away (3 months). I just wanted to see if iy is better to wait to make this or if it would be ok to make now. I have a huge family and I would like to gift everyone something homemade. ?
Ash Sears says
Jessica, I’ve had them on my shelf as long as six months. I would think they would be safe to make now and give at the holidays. Though I would make sure that you have them tightly sealed.
Amber says
How much does this make?
Ash Sears says
Amber, this makes one jar full of scrub 🙂
Melissa Moreno says
Could you replace the sea salt with epsom salt?
Ash Sears says
Melissa, Yup it sure still work with epsom salts!
Debbie says
How much vinegar do I use?
Ash Sears says
Debbie, 1 tsp of vinegar should do the trick!
Kathy B says
This looks like fun! Can you also use sugar instead of the sea salt, or I cup of each? Thanks!
Ash Sears says
Kathy, You absolutely can use sugar instead of salt. I would just make sure to not use powdered sugar or a sugar that is too fine that it dissolves completely in the oil. Just add a little bit of oil at a time until you get a nice sandy mix.
