This ice cream social is a sponsored post, but all opinions are my own.
When I was a kid, the words “ice cream social” were magical words. My little kid brain would be filled with mounds of deliciously creamy ice cream smothered in a river of toppings.
Jelly beans, caramel sauce, whipped cream, sprinkles, hot fudge. There is no such thing as too many toppings when it came to ice cream social parties. It was a little bit of summer heaven, in a not so tidy little bowl.
The other day I was talking to my kids about what they would enjoy doing this summer. Like most teenagers, they hemmed and hawed about how summer was SO boring.
Summer doesn’t have to be boring when you are celebrating the 4th of July with lots and lots of premium Member’s Mark ice cream from Sam’s Club!
Ice Cream Social How I Love Thee!
Though I haven’t thought about ice cream social parties for decades, ice cream social ideas popped in my head! Ice cream socials and 4th of July parties go together like peanut butter and jelly.
The wheels in my head began to turn, and I spun around with a happy gleeful smile.
My kids love ice cream, and I love a good ice cream social. Let’s do this!
Growing up in the southern states, summer was always H O T, hot! That’s probably why almost every party I attended in summer involved ice cream.
Homemade ice cream, ice cream in a giant pail, ice cream pops: Summer was all about the ice cream.
I’ve always had a sweet tooth, and having an ice cream party is heaven on earth for someone like me.
As a kid I almost took it as a challenge to see just how much I could fit in my bowl without spilling it all over myself. Chocolate ice cream with caramel and chocolate sauce topped with nuts, whipped cream, and candy. That was the perfect way to build your tower of sweets!
It’s one of the reasons 4th of July was always the highlight of my summer. We’d go to an ice cream social at a friends house, and then we would watch the fireworks.
Fast forward 30 years later, and I’m still obsessed with ice cream (and fireworks)!
It came as a shock to me that my kids had no idea what an ice cream social was.
It doesn’t matter if it’s a cold Minnesota winter, or a blissfully warm Minnesota summer. We ALWAYS have ice cream in the house. The kids are as bad as I am about ice cream. How did I raise them the past 15+ years and not help them experience my love of ice cream parties????
Once I explained to them what heaven this kind of summer party was, we made plans to celebrate the 4th of July this year with goodies from Sam’s Club.

Ice Cream Social: Make Your 4th of July ROCK!
Ice Cream: This should be a DUH, but just in case, you need ice cream! Sam’s Club Member’s Mark ice cream is da bomb dot com. Stock up on your favorite flavors!
When we are expecting a crowd, the first place we go to is Sam’s Club. They have great prices plus we always know they’ll have enough for everyone.
Sam’s Club literally has everything to make your ice cream social ideas come alive. From their new Member’’s Mark premium ice cream to all the toppings, bowls, and utensils you need.
Make one stop, and get everything you need to make your party rock. If you can get everything at Sam’s Club, that leaves more time to devour ice cream, and that’s a win in my book!
Toppings: It’s not a party if you don’t have toppings. Nobody wants to make their ice cream sad. That would make everyone sad. No idea what toppings rock? Here are some of my favorites:
-
Candy
-
Cookies
-
Caramel Sauce
-
Chocolate Sauce
-
Cherries
-
Whipped Cream
-
Jelly Beans
-
Sprinkles
Make it easy on your guests and put your toppings in little dishes with spoons. It’s a great way to make your display drool worthy, plus everyone doesn’t have their hands in the toppings.
Bowls and Spoons: Unless you want to be doing dishes FOREVER, I highly recommend snagging some plastic bowls and spoons. (Available at Sam’s Club, hint hint)
It means less work for you, plus you just recycle them when your party is over.
Tablecloth: Putting a wipeable tablecloth on your serving table will help keep mess at bay. It will also help keep summer critters from visiting your party.
Keep a moist washcloth handy so you can catch any spills quickly. That way you spend more time enjoying ice cream, and less time cleaning!

Red, White, and Blue Cupcakes: Ice cream is grand, but it’s even better when it’s served with these semi-homemade red, white, and blue cupcakes!
Homemade Strawberry Jam Recipe of Awesomeness: Homemade strawberry jam isn’t just for your toast. It also makes a great ice cream topping!
