You guys know my love for the pigskin. I’ve been playing fantasy football for over ten years, and yes, part of moving to Minneapolis is because we have an NFL football team (Skol Vikings!) That’s why I wanted to share with you guys a few of our family’s traditions and tailgating recipes to help you enjoy the family time as much as we do. It’s even better family time when you do the homegating at home!
Normally, I could say we aren’t football crazies that think it’s a fun idea to watch football in sub-artic temperatures, but thanks to my die hard Viking daughter I can’t say that any more. Next Sunday, we are headed out to the University of Minnesota to watch them play the Panthers in an OUT.DOOR.STADIUM. Did I mention the fact I’ve always thought Soldier Field in Chicago being outdoors is NUTS? Well, I live in Minnesota where we were colder than places in Antartica last year, and because my 12 year old daughter batted her pretty little eyelashes and asked for NFL game tickets for her birthday, this time next week I will be outside freezing my every loving ass off.
I guess that officially puts us in the big NFL fan category. At our house, it’s kind of become a right of passage. Growing up my parents liked watching football, and it was something fun to do with my dad on Sundays. In high school, a good friend of mine would always have the most epic Super Bowl parties, which always happened to be on or right around my birthday, so that was a win win in my book.
Now that I am an adult my husband, the kids, and I like to turn on the TV on Sundays joke about the game and get our eat on. It’s not every Sunday that we have a full homegating spread, but it’s a special treat that we do to add a little bit more fun and yum to our Sunday tradition. Since we’ve moved to a bigger home we plan on having a fun homegating party during the Super Bowl too. The kids get really excited about planning what we’re going to eat, and we get excited about inviting our friends over to our new pad to watch the big game!
We’ve found some really fun Vikings gear online that even takes our parties to the next level. I fell in love with this cute Vikings football helmet wine cork, and they even had matching Vikings etched wine glasses. (Who says football is always about beer)
Hubby and I were also able to grab a cute football shaped cutting board, and a Vikings chip and dip platter to make our homegating spread even more fanatic. We were already in the market for all those things, so we figured we might as well show a little Vikings pride. You can check out all the NFL homegating collection on the NFL Shop website!
