This week I pledged to get my craft room organized. The armoire where I keep all of my craft supplies was beginning to resemble this scary beast that I didn’t want to poke for fear it might attack me with all its clutter.
Upcycled Ribbon Organizer
One of the things that are REALLY all over the place is my ribbons. It’s in the bathroom, the kitchen, and I even found some in my purse one time. (Hey, the first step is admitting you have a problem). Seeing that the ribbon is getting a wee bit out of control, I figured that I would find a way to tame the beast.
What I came up with was a way to upcycle things I already have around the house, and make a really neat upcycled ribbon organizer. The best thing about this organizer is that it didn’t cost me ANYTHING to make. (Except when I buy grommets to finish it up). I just used materials I had from other projects and a left over shoe box. There IS a bonus to Mr. Crunchy having huge feet. (Mind out of the gutter ladies)
Here are the supplies you need to make your own ribbon organizer
- Small Dowel Rods (even wooden skewers would work)
- A large shoe box (man with large feet not included)
- Pretty Contact paper ( I recommend this one, it’s super cute!)
Now that you have all your supplies you are ready to go!
The first thing you want to do is make sure the inside is clear of dust or any dirt that might be in the box.
Then take one of your dowel rods and poke a whole in one side of the box. Before I did this, I put my biggest ribbon spool in the box and tried to line the dowel rod up so that it would go through the center of the spool and still allow the spool to move.
Once you are through on one side, keep it as straight as you can and push through the other side of the box. Now remove the rod.
On the front of the box, you want to use the dowel rod to poke a whole approximately every 1 1/2 to 2 inches.
Now it’s time for the fun part. Cover the box with contact paper. On this particular project, I chose to only cover the outside. The only time the inside is going to be seen is when you are replacing the ribbons.
Just take your time covering it with contact paper. Make sure to smooth out your seams and get all of your bubbles out. Other that that it’s just like wrapping a present.
Do you have craft clutter? What do you do to keep it all organized?
